Just finished up with the tank. I think that was 4-5 days of 6-8 hours a day to get everything done. A lot longer than expected.

Here are some shots of the tank.

I went and filled the tank and its pretty much 10 gallons exactly.

I went back and drained it into jugs to see how long it would take to drain, the whole thing empties in under 6 min by gravity (no pump) which is pretty good.
    tank005.jpg

I also drained the main gas tank down 10 gallons from full to see where the factory needle lands. I then marked the factory fuel gauge to know when I can dump the aux tank.

    The setup.

Its a 3/8 solenoid. Its 3/8 coming out of the bottom of the tank direct into the top of the solenoid. Even though the out is 3/8 on the solenoid I had to neck up to 1/2 to match the vent on the filler neck. I probably should of just went 1/2 on the solenoid and the tank exit but it doesn't seem to matter too much, it still drains in under 6 min which is pretty fast.
    tank006.jpg

The tap into the filler neck vent (1/2 inch), where aux tank dumps into the main tank.
    tank007.jpg

The aux tank vent into the factory evap line (1/4 inch).
    tank008.jpg

I used a flush mount marine filler. The little part in the center pulls out so you can unscrew it.
    tank009.jpg

    The tank mounted.
    tank010.jpg

The gauge is hooked up to the factory dimmer and the switch to dump the tank only lights up when its pressed. There was a green filter for the gauge light which would of matched the
stock lights, but I went with the red because I prefer my gauges to be dim and not distracting.
    tank011.jpg

While 3/4 the way through working on the tank I came up with a better idea. If I had to do it again, I would put the tank where the spare tire is, but make it so the spare tire can go back in the same spot.
The tank would end up being bigger (probably around 15 gallons), the center of gravity would be better and it wouldn't take up bed space. The only problem is you would have to use a pump and it would be harder to fill. I may end up doing that in the future though.

Damn dog woke me up to go out round 3:30a this morning. Couldn't go back to sleep. Ended up reading your whole post. Good job! Can't believe what you've went thru with your truck. You've inspired me to change the belts on mine today. Great job on that tank.

Just drove back to LA and stopped to see the guys at the La Brea Arcteryx.
    IMG_4421.jpg

Had a couple issues this time.

Coming through Illinois it was snowing and whatever crap they put on the road seized my parking brake. I couldn't pull it on at all. I stayed over in Iowa and the next morning I got a can of WD40
and tried to put the whole can in the line. Didn't work.

The light in the VDO gauge I just added for the AUX tank stopped working.

Then coming through Utah the fan clutch seized so it was stuck on. Which sucks because I just bought that fan clutch from autozone, duralast my ass. Died in less than 15k miles. Went to the junkyard when I got back to
LA and pulled one off a 4Runner. Not sure if its factory or not. It doesn't say ASIN. But I checked a Tacoma and 4Runner and they both had the same, so IDK if some years had this one.

Duraass. You can see the cover for the bearings is lifted. It puked all the oil out too.
    IMG_4426.jpg

The one I pulled on the left, Duraass on the right.
    IMG_4427.jpg

Also the AUX fuel tank was amazing. The time for it to dump went up to 10 min from the test at 6 min, I guess the T really necked it down. And it seems to be adding 150 extra miles.

I also noticed the timing belt idler pulley is really starting to sing so I guess Im gonna have to do that mess soon. And the Magnadrone is starting to get loud. All that cross country driving probably burned a lot of the packing out.

Love the energy. This write up is great, it's fun to read. What's up with your fascination with Arcteryx?

Thanks. IDK, Ive like that brand since the late 90-early 2000's. Every store has a different patch, so when I was diving across the county I was trying to get them.

The freaking toll roads over there drive me crazy. Doesn't tax payer money already pay for the roads?

My battery has started dying. Over the last 3 nights its gotten worse and worse.

Even though its maintenance free, I check the water level and it was down a little bit. I added some distilled water and nothing.

IDK if Exide batteries are crap or what, but the battery is marked 2018 and it has a 40 month warranty, which sucks because you need a receipt and
it was the previous owner that bought it.

I just took the loss. Freaking $188 after core charge for a duralast gold. Wtf. Kind of annyoed now that I didnt mess around with it longer to see if it was a bad connection or something.

So what are the chances of finding a new set of window deflectors/guards new still in the package for a 1st gen tacoma?!

Cant believe I found these today at a thrift store and for an extended cab no less.

    The package is marked 05/2005.

May have to put them on. Not sure if id be into putting the rear wing window ones on though. Ill have to see how they look.

Added a Vantop mirror/back up cam/dash cam. Mounted the rear cam on the top of the shell. Works pretty good. Now I can catch the liars from the front and back.

    mirror001.jpg

    mirror002.jpg

Also need to modify the rear window on the shell. Seems like a bad design. Whenever it rains it leaks like crazy and when I open the glass it dumps all the water into the bed.
    mirror003.jpg

Need to add something to the frame on the shell and the frame on the window.
