    One good thing about both the 2.7 and the 4.0 is that they're both really easy on oil....and can operate just fine on synthetic or conventional on a variety of weights...0/20 to 10/40.

    It certainly does make me feel pretty good about the truck. The owner was very upfront that it has an oil leak from the valve cover gasket, which doesn't bother me at all.

    It does actually show that it has had synthetic for the last four years! I'll be continuing that trend unlike my last one that drank a quart every 600 miles. It was too thirsty for synthetic.

    They sure are easy on oil, I think at one point in a pinch I had three different weights and brands in my last taco's engine at the same time!

    That's the consensus on BITOG site on both engines. I've heard of one guy running nothing but 0/20 in his business fleet of 4.0s and others using 0/40 and even 10/40 with no issues and great UOA reports. The 2.7 is the same way....though if you're boosting I would probably run M1 0/40 European synthetic. Great oil

    I'm definitely going to talk to a few engine shops and companies about the best choice for an aftermarket boosted application. I'm leaning towards a synthetic 5w30 at the moment, but it's still a good ways off.

    If you like a 5/30....both M1 Truck and SUV and M1 High Mileage formulas are on the heavy side of the 30 weight spectrum....coming in at 11.7 and 11.9 @100° C. That's approaching light 40 weight territory which starts at around 12.
