I vote Cummins, they have been around the longest and for good reason. Ford should have stuck with the 7.3 but they keep changing trying to come up with something better and fail to do so, the 6.0 had a ton of problems. The duramax is okay because it is quiet but still love the straight 6 sound.

You could do that with the Dodges from 08+ too. I remember my old work truck I could.

Yup. Both Ford and Dodge use Solid Front Axles up front. I haven't heard of any issues with GM/Chevy using Independent up front though.

Well the general IQ at tractor pulls usually amounts to the same PSI in the tires of the pulling vehicle.

the 6.7 liter scorpion is YEARS in the making. Ford knew what they had to do when they pushed the 6.0 too far with International. the 6.4 liter was a segway to the 6.7 from the 6.0. Confusing?

Anyway, my vote is for the powerstroke. Ford is a solid truck, I would get a superduty with the 6.7 scorpion in a heartbeat. The emissions stuff that new diesels use is a friggin joke. Simplicity is GONE.

I'm thinking maybe a tundra..they have a ton of room in the back seats unlike chevy..and I think a tundra would get the job done

I previously drove a 2008 Dodge 2500 Cummins 4X4 quadcab for 6 months. It was a company truck but i got to drive it home everynight :D. We sunk one in a muddy cornfield up to the axles and had to pull it out with a backhoe . Very fun and powerful truck and the Cummins is known to easily go 200,000 miles without a rebuild.

Also used to tow an 11,000 pound Vermeer trencher with a 97 F-250 7.3L Powerstroke and 2004 F-350 flatbed 6.0 Powerstroke. Both did this with ease and had no problem running 75 mph on the freeway. The 7.3 was a way better engine in my opinion.

I have never to driven a Duramax, but if had to chose one I would pick the Cummins. All three are very capable trucks, I guess it just comes down to if you are a Ford, Dodge, or Chevy man. In the meantime I'll keep dreaming that Toyota develops a 3/4 ton diesel Tundra.

    **cough** ugly **cough**

They need to get rid of the dually look if I was to even consider that...did they keep the same tundra frame or beef it up to be closer to a 3/4 or 1 ton frame? If they just added duallys and diesel engine to a standard tundra, IMHO its a useless POS.

I wouldn't go with any other diesel other then a 2500 or 3500 Dodge Cummins.

Duramax with Allison is the way to go. I had a construction company and ownd all of the big three - Dodge, Ford and Chevy. I hated my Dodge, I loved my 7.3 Powerstroke but my 6.0 and 6.4 Powerstrokes were junk (loved looks and everything sbout them but the motor). The 6.7 mexican motors won't be any better ( no offense to my latin buddies out there my wife is a latina).

As much as I love Ford my Durama/Allison combo has never let me down and the ride is actually much better than the Dodge or Ford.

Opinions are like, well you know the rest of that statement...... I just wanted to share my personal experience so take it for what its worth. If you have any questions about the GM products shoot me a PM, my brother has worked for the driveability division of GM for 30 years.

I am now in the market for a Tacoma partly due to parking garage limitations, but before that I gave diesel trucks a hard look. In my research, the clear favorites are the Dodge Cummins, almost any year except the early 6.7's. If you want to go older and noisier, the Fords with the 7.3's (ended in mid 2003) are reported to go forever.
