So basically, re-aim the headlights for now since constant load and leafs are technically like that on purpose. When the shit the bed at some point, get Icon replacements and re-adjust. Gotcha.

Pretty much. It's not a complicated process, you just turn the lights on and turn a screw. The only thing is you will want to find as level of a surface as you can. I also recommend having someone sit in the driver seat as well, and maybe a half tank of gas (but, I'm also a quality engineer so I get way too involved in basic, simple tasks). A parking garage may do well for you for a level surface.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/anybody-know-how-to-aim-headlights.440032/

Found that thread quickly. I'm assuming there's more good info in there. You'll spend an hour finding a level surface and then 2 minutes aiming them.

You'll likely end up looking like this when you do it.

You can do small adjustments in the driveway easy enough as you drive around and realize you're wonky.

I've adjusted headlights before, but never realized it was that much more complex. I'll just kinda work with it somehow Maybe adjust the same number of turns on each light or something.

Hey, at least it already passed inspection.

I got deavers on my 1st gen and been very happy with them. I like icon products but dont like them as a company due to their customer support. So I stay away from them now.

Oh they don't check for headlight aim. My last inspection they didn't even turn the lights on....

A lot of heavier duty trucks have a headlight aim dial for this sort of thing though.

You don't have to get involved with it you can wing it in the driveway. In fact, I would even recommend it. Remember: I will overdo things as complex as possible.

Yeah, never seen a headlight aim dial before. Going to have to manually do that. Thanks for the tips though. Much appreciated.

Still use it...town water so no well pump for this guy. I'm tellin ya man, you're missing out. I can't trust someone who's willing to walk around with a potentially dirty balloon knot. If you care about yourself you'd buy one.

All you gotta do, turn a knob, adjust pressure to your personal preference, pressure wash the mud off the the under carriage, adjust the nozzle angle as needed, dry off, flush. Done.

Are you an official inspector, or just amateur?
So, how much paper do you use to dry off with? Just trying to get a realistic cost savings.

Won't lie to you, dollar store face cloths. Buy a few packs and I'll let you decide how often you wash them. And I leave my inspector status at this, if someone tells you they don't take the time to wash the chocolate starfish in the shower they are one of two things....1) dirty liar with a dirty b hole or B) an untrustworthy dirty liar. #cleanbungholes2020

Edit: It's not even Friday yet so I'm going to stop talking about cleaning butt holes.

That depends on the state and the inspector. My wife’s Jeep was just turned away because of aim.

I must not have fully seated the headlight back in after the H9 swap debacle where I dropped the bulb into the underside of the lamp assembly never to be found again. I don’t see it looking at it, but the cutoff is a bit off. Getting the headlights of the truck requires a double jointed wrist, so I’m willing myself to go back in there. I want to replace the candles masquerading as headlamps but haven’t decided the direction to go, whether to go H9 or updated H11.

The inspection is due this month so I’ll take it to a less stringent place and likely have no issues.

Car dealers tend to be way more stringent than the typical little shop, but I figured since the Jeep is fully stock minus yellow fog lamp bulbs I’d have no issue. Oops.

My guy has gotten burned by undercover state employees a couple times. He had one come in with a plate light out, he noticed it and swapped the bulb during the inspection so it would pass, didn't ask for payment for it or anything. Apparently that's not allowed and you have to fail it, then offer to fix it, then retest.

I've found a pretty simple way to aim headlights. Just requires a flat surface leading up to a vertical surface and some tape (and whatever tools you need to actually adjust the lights. I drive right up to the vertical surface and mark the wall where the hot spot is. Back up 20' and the hot spot should be vertically in the same spot and down about 1" from the initial mark. That's how I've adjusted my headlights for a while now, I keep the driver's side one a touch lower than the passenger side and it seems to work well.

really drivers side lower with the Tacoma lean? Interesting. Nothing wrong with that just thought you’d say opposite.

i snuck my HIDs back on. Ballasts zip tied in, better than last time just tossed then in and hoped for the best. My yellow lights were a bitch and didn’t want to get into the fog housings. Cheap 10 dollar Amazon lights, shocking. So I have white lights down there now I’ll probably grab some yellow ones instead for the snow. Need to order some other junk anyway from the ‘zon.
