Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

everything is protected in the software and the VIN information is not stored locally.

I'm quite certain it will be the last update that makes any big change. Because from this point we want to focus on our datalogger, updating tables, etc etc


When you consider per vehicle licensing models of other tuning software, ours is very very affordable in comparison.

 

Will this allow you to use multiple laptops?

 

If that's the case wouldn't he just be replacing the problem of unauthorized 2.0 flashing with unauthorized software unlocking?

 

Not if it verifies the VIN associated with the software online.

 

I wonder how it will work if you don't have a network connection.

 

I’m sorry if this has been asked/answered before, but does anybody know if the Tacoma Vf Tune works with the OVTune Flash Tablet and a standard OBDII cable?

I think it would be helpful if OV Tune posts the reasons why the upgrades are required rather than stating what the software changes are. For example, unauthorized tuners using unapproved P5f files requires us to Vin lock our software and tune to protect the integrity of the tune as well as continue to offer tune support, etc.

It’s causing a lot of anxiety and speculation and now he has to defend himself. It’s kinda like putting the cart before the horse.

Sorry if this has been answered in this thread before, difficult to navigate through all the pages at this point. For flashkit users, how can we access the stock tune again? Can't seem to download it through the flash manager anymore. Going in for the fuel pump recall this week and wanted to revert to stock before doing so. ECU config is 04B30 AT

 

OVT has already done just what you ask. Just go back through his posts for the last day or so and you will see his motivation. Not sure if it is in this thread or one of the other OVT threads..................

 

No need to revert to stock tuning for a dealer visit. @OVTune won’t be detected and the worst that could happen is that your dealer could flash over the OVTune returning you to Toyota stock.

I just had my FP replaced last Friday. No requirement to flash the ECU for the FP recall. No problems and tune still going strong.

 

Maybe, but if you look at all the responses, clearly no one read and understood what his intentions were. That compounded by the fact that they made several posts of unauthorized tuners causes speculation.

 

Why would anyone have anxiety over this. The changes being made will make the software even easier to use.
Yes the reason these changes are happening is because of people going around using our logo without our authorization selling tunes without paying for them, and in some cases taking peoples money, giving them nothing and disappearing.

I have had reports there are people selling others out there STOCK tunes. Flashing their truck with a STOCK tune. For $75 / $100 / whatever

So the changes we are making is to better protect you guys.

This is why mat tends to not mention anything about things in development. It seems every time he does, there is mass hysteria in this thread and people start freaking out.

In the end, every major change he’s made has been better for end users - elimination of dongles for ease of registration and licensing, release of flash manager, move to vF to allow customization of your own tunes based on your personal preferences.

Until its released, theres not really any sense in worrying about it and as said in a few posts, some details are still being worked out.

Until it's released it shouldn't be mentioned, imo. The whole issue is failure to manage expectations. When stuff is still under development, there's inevitable changes, in a clickbait society, almost no one is going into the fine minutiae and subtlety of the actual progress of the dev. So when theres changes people feel shorted or "cheated". I'm not saying either is Right or wrong. Just how it looks to a dummy like me.

 

Yeah..then people freak out they haven’t heard anything and that the product is dead.. its really a no win situation. You cant please everyone and some seem to thrive on drama and instant gratification..

 

I mean you can still say "we're working on it guys! Thanks for your patience!" Without real details

 

"Hey folks we are making some changes to make the software even easier to use and to stop piracy and better protect people"

This causes anxiety and speculation and somehow makes people think they may have to buy pro version etc.


The only reason I mentioned it at all is I don't want you guys getting forked over from someone selling a copy of the stock tune to you. and I don't want people using my logo to sell tunes they don't even rightfully own.

 

FYI that wasn't how I felt or me complaining, just from an outsider observer
