What if the dealer applies a new tsb?

 

How can those of us offering some VFTune-based flashing/tuning/tweaking to others and show that we are offering proper tunes within our licensing? Something like an approved 3rd party list on your site or your forum?

EDIT: or will any other type of non-standard flashing just be impossible so there would be no confusion or concerns.

 

Just like @wiljayhi said, your ECU may be updated at the dealership, and that will write over your tune. Though, that scenario is very unlikely.

 

If this is done would it cause a problem flashing afterwards?

 

Everything is on the computer screen. It is as simple as showing the folks the tune that was flashed and flashed successfully. Of course, even that can be abused in a few ways that I can think of.

 

It's happened a number of times now. New cal with fuel pump.

 

Yes, the late guy I helped out I let him see how I updated the TSB with Techstream as we talked about needing to do up front, then showed him the tune I made in VF and how it has the needed customization (tires and AGM for him) and then flashed it. I am more thinking about the marketing of services so folks know I am a 'trusted resource' not some guy pedaling stock files.

Will this update end someone, a registered user, from modifying one of your tunes, and installing it onto someone else's vehicle?

Ok that's good to know. Was just afraid should something blow up on the vehicle and I try to warranty claim they don't try to pull anything on me because I played around with the ECU lol

On that note though, where does one get access to the stock tune nowadays? I guess for peace of mind it would be good to have a copy on file...

 

In vf tuner its at c:\program files (x86)\vf Tuner\tacoma

Honestly, ive had trusting people and some skeptical people that I have tuned.
They should be able to feel a difference. They should expect you to ride with them to make sure everything feels ok.
They should not pay you until the service is done.
Anyone who doesn't buy directly from Matt should, be all means, come into the purchase with some caution, but also clarify things. One person who I plan to tune soon keeps up with this thread and asked me about pf5's vs. .vft -- they are doing their homework.

Obviously @OVTune would not be to blame, although some people might direct frustrations if it were possible for someone to go around hustling you without having a layer of verification. They should also understand the level of risk they take in having some stranger do this service for them.
