Want to upgrade all speakers

Ok....let me try a different tact.

Frequency is the "tone" (or music note) that you can hear. Speakers have range of "tones" that they can produce. The human ear can hear "tones" in a range.

Some speakers can produce "tones" that are beyond what the human ear can hear.

So any "tone" above 20,000 Hz is not able to be heard by human ears.

 

so this summer i swapped out all my speakers went with JL C2-650X all the way around went with Crutchfield got me all the brackets cables, was a super easy plug and play install. then i went the Subaru Tweeter route, some minor work but pretty easy.

Oh yeah...Dummy me...I also replaced the head unit!!!
That's really the best move for a 2nd gen. They have nice din kits.
Replace that head unit and you'll love the difference. I tested the OEM radio just to hear the difference and yea...an amp is lipstick on a pig for the stock head unit.

Rockfords: 60-22000 Hz (or 60 Hz - 22 kHz)
Pioneer: 30-49000 Hz (or 30 Hz - 49 kHz)


I always found it amazing that we can detect 20 Hz (some people have tested as low as 12) considering that the unit hertz is defined as cycles of oscillation per second.

 

so a head unit is a must have to make the best sound? or to get the best out of the speakers? I'm not an audio guy or anything, just want better speakers than my stock ones....better sounding. doesnt have to be super loud or have lots of bass lol

 

well getting a better head unit will always make it sound better haha. for the longest time i had the stock stereo with a JL StealthBox and it worked great for years. up until the head unit started failing. replaced with an Alpine-ILX-F259, then realized the speakers were not keeping up so decided to upgrade.

something to consider as well is if you are looking for good sound consider sound deadening while you have panels off. this can increase the quality of sound.

id say minimum feature to get is CarPlay or Android Auto. IMO game changer, Waze, Google Maps, Gaia. Streaming Apple Music, Tidal, Spotify. that was also another major reason why i wanted a new headunit. Deale wanted a couple hundred for a map update for Nav F that... and to boot it was acting very odd. kept cutting out, inquired to see what cost would be to get replacement from dealer. right around 2k, yeah hard no

Is there a reason you keep pairing full range speakers with an extra tweeter?

Don’t let what everyone else wants you to do get you all distracted. If you want some damn speakers then you get you some damn speakers. If you choose wisely, replacing other stuff isn’t necessary.

The biggest reason most people replace their factory stereo is to get more features, because it’s possible to get great sound from them if you really try.

Now, I’m not really the guy to ask about speakers in this case because I just have incredibly expensive taste and it’s fairly impossible for me to work within budgets when it comes to stereo stuff, but I can make some general recommendations.

1. If you CAN, 6x9 woofer in the door and a matching component high frequency for the upper door. I say this because a 6x9 will typically play lower than a 6.5” and I don’t see you talkin’ any subwoofer talk so you wanna get what you can get.

2. Don’t screw with the back doors yet. You won’t hear them, there’s no rush.

3. You are looking for speakers that have high sensitivity. This means they can make more sound on less power.

4. Do at least minimal sound treatment on the doors when you crack them open. It’s not a miracle cure for road noise, but reducing flex in the door sheet metal will help your speakers work better.

5. Take the time to get the right mounting depth. You need to make sure the window won’t hit the magnet, but you also want the inside door panel to mate up as much as possible with the front of the speaker or you will be losing sound inside the door. I’m not a fan of the cheap plastic mounting brackets either. You want something more rigid that seals nicely.

Im sure there’s more but I’m rambling and I’m starting to feel the urge to recommend that you triple your budget so I’mma kill it for right now.

 

You got me even more confused now! Thanks, all I want is to replace my front door 6x9’s and tweeters and rear door 6.5’s to something decent within a budget. I pair the 6x9’s with tweeters cause that’s what my door has. Just wanna replace all speakers

 

Relax. You'll be fine with the recommendation of the Pioneers.

They should be near plug n play install. Talk to Crutchfield about all the install things you need.

You can always change the Head Unit in the future.

The TS-A692C are a set of component speakers. Woofer is 6x9 with a separate tweeter. These are for the front doors.
The TS-A652F are 6 1/2 coaxials. Meaning, the woofer and tweeter mounted together. This speaker will help to fill in the mid-tones. These would go into the rear doors. Or you could install later.

 

• impedance: 4 ohms
• sensitivity: 87 dB

There will be a trade off in volume using these.

 

I've been super happy with infinity reference coax in the back, and in infinity kappa 6x9 components on a 2019 OEM head unit. Ialso have a jl stealthbox with a 10"sub and a decent mono amp. Im also trying to avoid aftermarket Head units, because I actually LIKE the Toyota nav entune units. They have more features than I need plus that factory look.

I agree with you. Although, the recommendation of the Pioneers would give good performance and fidelity to remain within OP's budget.

 

I took a quick look and there are two (IMO) better options under $200. Were this my vehicle, I'd be looking hard at the JL C1s, but frankly the Audison APK690's are only $50 over and those are light years better than anything mentioned in this thread.
