While not a believer in these extended warranty plans, i thought it worthwhile to take the lifetime interior/exterior glass coat treatment plan. Claimed never a need to wax, or wash the truck as long as i own it. So far after 9 months i've just let the rain do its job. Except for some minor light black streaking from the side windows on the truck exterior, it looks still amazing shiny as if i just picked it up. No rock chip dings either. My tundra already would had a couple good ones by then, but this treatment plan wasn't available back then.

Ten years ago, my step-Grandma bought a brand new 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe, just a basic FWD model (It has power windows and locks, A/C, CD stereo with Bluetooth and AUX input, etc, but it doesn't have a sunroof or leather seats); It also predates the era when every passenger vehicle including shitbox $9,900 Mitsubishi Mirages started getting standard backup cameras. She lives in New Jersey and that's where the dealer is located. My Grandma financed the Hyundai for sixty months, and my dad and uncle went with her to make sure the dealer didn't try to pull any funny business; Go figure, that's exactly what they did.

Gap insurance is intended for people who put zero down and/or have bad credit and end up paying obscene interest rates; If the vehicle gets totaled before it is paid off, then the gap insurance steps in and pays off what the regular insurance won't pay for. My Grandma has excellent credit, put a decent amount down as a down payment, and got a normal low-interest loan through either a bank or possibly even Hyundai.

The dealership (Sansone Hyundai) apparently either provided the gap insurance themselves or got a sizeable kickback from the gap insurance provider for signing people up, because they slipped in a contract for gap insurance while my Grandma was signing the various paperwork required to buy a new car; Luckily, my eagle-eyed uncle saw this and stopped his stepmom before she could sign it, then read the finance manager or whoever it was the riot act for attempting to "pull that shit" on her.

Nana still has the Hyundai, and it has long since been paid off; However, while it is in excellent condition, it has close to (if not more than) 100K miles and she really wants to buy a new car! The lack of a backup camera, as mentioned above, is also a major contributing factor; I could easily install one for her, and she could probably get another ten years out of the Santa Fe, but she wants something new...

    But yeah, dealers suck!

They applied nano coating on your glass and your paint. Good for about a year max. The "lifetime" tratement plan is BS. We all know nothing lasts forever. Your truck is quicksand, which is the best color at hiding dirt. Run a white cloth anywhere on your truck and you will see what i mean. If it was black, red, blue, green etc, it would show dirt within the first week.

Even if you layer your nano coatings and apply a nano top coat, it still needs to be maintanied. Also, one of the most important things is to always wash your ceramic coating. If you dont, it looses its hydrophobic properties (9h) and dirt will just stick on dirt, defeating the whole puropse.

Sorry i just get really passionate about detailing cars haha. I know quite a bit about coatings and such. Its actually very interesting stuff.

Totally agree and a wet paper towel will even collect more dirt/dust to prove the point.

    Yep, 100%.

Guy buys quicksand color taco and claims its still "shiny" after 9 months, ha! Awesome color if you never want to wash your car.

Quicksand actually hides dirt better than silver.

Toyotas platinum does cover seals and gaskets. It doesn't cover hoses since they are wear items.

It looks like I'm going to be picking up my new Tacoma next week and I might have a little fun with the "finance office." (Note that I'm paying all cash and absolutely will not buy any add-ons or extended warranties.) Let's see how much time the finance guy can waste on me...

See that Finance manger and look them straight in the eyes and say--

When I tell my children "no" they listen. If they don't, I send them to their room.

Don't make me send you to your room, it would embarrass you at your age. (give this a try)

When I sat down to pay for my truck a couple of weeks ago they tried to sell me a bunch of stuff. Doesn't bother me. I just told them I am not interested and I never buy extended warranties for anything. It was no problem. I am sure they would have much rather sold me a bunch of stuff, but it is what it is. They treated me fairly.

Whatever the simonize glass coat plan was, the dealer claimed the coating should be highly effective for 3 years if nothing done. After that it slowly degrades in which its a good to do a wax job once in awhile to prolong the process. At any rate i was told in my case keeping a vehicle forever they'd even paint the truck if this glass coat was shown to go south....same for the interior. You can wipe the surface with a clean cloth after a rain storm...you'll only get some light black stuff below the access cab windows...otherwise no dirt that i can tell.
I did speak to a couple toyota owners that had older vehicles treated with the same plan when new, and swear by it, so its somewhat proven that it does work.

I only use micro fiber cloths when detailing any vehicle...last thing would be a paper towel.

3 years? Yeah, no way man. If you want to believe that, thats up to you. Your truck is exposed to elements everyday. I would not wait 3 years before doing a bit of maintenance to it. Also, wax washes away in about 3 weeks, depending on the weather and how often you wash it, its pretty useless to be honest.

But if you believe what they say, thats great. Dont get me wrong, doing nothing is way worse than not getting ceramic coating. Its good stuff, just needs to be maintained.

    Have a good one.

Hey, i'm only repeating what the body shop manager inside the service dept. told me about the product. At any rate they had the truck in there for nearly 2 days coating it. So far its held up to an amazing amount of bird poop during the hot weather being baked on where i needed a wet micro fiber cloth everyday or so to wipe it off, not to mention some really bad weather. I would of thought any regular non-treated surface would of had some issues, yet it still looks great.

All this talk of waxing and washing makes me realize that my truck is abhorrently filthy.

I never said to use a paper towel to detail. I said to use a wet paper towel to identify the amount of
    dirt/dust on a paint surface.

"Totally agree and a wet paper towel will even collect more dirt/dust to prove the point."

    How is your reading comprehension?

Look at it this way -- the dirt itself is another layer of "protective coating."
