Have a nice '11 Mag Gray DC OR w 82k miles but got bored and started browsing for a 2-3 year old one that could be worth the trade. That reminded me how tough it is to financially do well, buying a 2-3 year old taco, since they only depreciate $3k in that whole timeframe. So, I started looking at local dealer inventory (3 right around me). That's when I spotted a '21 OR DCSB in transit to one of them, in Voodoo blue. I am a HUGE fan of Mag Gray (yes, probably the most under-stated color) but I love a good blue (had a WRB WRX when they came out in 2001) and that color had me hooked.

It was near perfect spec for me, too. I wanted minimal BS on the truck (honestly miss my '06 1st gen simplicity), and this one just has the Tech pack, which I agree is useful, and then a sprinkling of crap that I can live with (edge guard, mud flap, chrome exhaust tip that I'll be selling, wheel locks, and the door sill and all weather mat protection that I did actually want). No LED headlights but not the end of the world.

Stopped in and had my numbers from a competing dealer on a near-identically spec'd '21 Mag Gray that I'd also be happy with. Showed them my offer I got on the mag gray (-$3440 including the $1000 Yota bucks) and they balked, claiming the voodoo commanded a premium and there were no plans to discount this truck when it arrived to them, and finally they offered -$1,200. I agree it's somewhat of a rare color on an OR (which is a plus to me), but it's not a complete unicorn and not a premium paint code from Toyota, so I pushed back on that. While sitting there, I actually got word from the other dealer that they had an incoming voodoo DCSB OR due at the end of the month. It didn't have tech pack, but at least it let me show the dealer I was sitting at that this was not a one-time-find truck. I offered them a $300 premium for the color and for their time with me over the competing dealer's offer on the new Mag Gray, and we agreed on a discount of $3140.

On the trade side, I think they were fair but not overly generous at 16,400 for '11 that's in good shape. Initially came in at 14,500 which was laughable. Two other dealers I poked around at offered 17,000 and 15,600, so their 16.4 wasn't the end of the world. I paid $24k for it 7 years ago with 45k miles on it.

    TLDR:
    '21 voodoo DCSB OR AT
    $39,990
    -$3,140
    $36,850 + TTL
+ Trade value I can live with on my '11
= check for $22k to go to a 10 year newer truck in a MUCH brighter color

voodoo blue is a hard color to come by... not sure why they even offer it when its such a pain in the ass to get,,,, anyway... did yours come with mudguard or mudflaps?? I noticed the new ones don't... mine was already installed when I got mine back in Sept 18th 2008...a brand new truck then.

Mine should have them since it’s on the option build sheet. They aren’t standard equip.

I certainly don’t want them and will be popping them off the first day it comes home. All they do is get caught and tear off and scrape.

My 1st gens were fine since they were nice and flexible. My 2nd gens removed themselves on the first rocks I went over

Only $300. None of the dealers I spoke with (15+) were willing to budge on their MSRPs much

Hello TACOMA world. First post. First truck. I went the cheap route. 2021 Access CAB 4CYL, extended bed. No rear seats. I am a single guy.
First thing is MSPR is around 27k. I just got the truck on 10/28/2020. I NEVER pay MSRP, I have NEVER paid MSRP on any vehicle. 5 dealers in NJ, VA, and PA, all quoted MSRP. I went with a central NJ Toyota dealer and he said, price is MSRP and said I am lucky he is not adding a premium. I got up and walked out, I gave them my phone number and said I'll buy tonight if you lower the price. No one followed me, I drove my car around the block, went for a meal, went home, came back the next day. Manager said, not to be rude to you, it is MSRP or if I want to wait until next spring when there will be more availability. Same story with other dealers. I bought the truck.

Costco auto program was a joke for the Tacoma. Staten Island Toyota treated my request so vaguely I complained to Costco, I got a call immediately from that dealer and was told, we are not discounting the Tacoma's, now if you want a Camry we can talk. I cancelled my Costco Membership.

Back on April the same truck was 22k.

I have pondered this while I shop as well and it came down to this for me which is why I am just going for it all included:
    - I could add leather seat covers for 4500 to $1000
    - But I really want a sunroof, so there is only one way tot get that
    - But do I really NEEDD the sunroof. No.
    - But I want the JBL system, right. I have upgraded car stereos and the speakers in the past, but I am sort of over it. So I want Leather, Sunroof and JBL, well then there ya go.

Then on tech pachage vs. advance tech:
    - This is a long truck. By far will be the longest vehocle I have owned. Worried about parking, off-roading (even light offroading) and navigating tight turns and rocks.
    - At the end of the day I knew I wanted the tech package, and the advanced is not that much more. To get the MTM camera to help wth all of the navigating this long truck "for me" is worth it.

And then LED headlights are almost always maybe always, included with the two packages above.

So totally understand your thoughts. I have gone thru this over and over in my brain and I arrived at "I keep my vehicles for 12-17 years on average and this F'r is expensive already. If I am spending that much $, add on a little more and get exactly what you want.

This is a prime example of upselling and marketing working it's magic.

LOL - TRUE - I do not disagree. I work in marketing too! Falling for my own tricks.

Honestly it sort of pisses me off that the only way to get the sunroof is in that package or on a TRD Pro. Didn't it used to be offered on the SR5 trim on the Gen 2's or maybe even the first year or 2 of the Gen 3's? I considered going to a 4Runner since you can get the sunroof on lower trims but the 4Runner doesn't fit my plans.

I'm not sure about the sunroof. To be honest, I've had a sunroof in my past 4 cars and opened it maybe a handful of times over the past few years. I honestly forget it's even there, so never even came across as a thought when looking for a Tacoma. I honestly bought my truck only because they were offering 0% for 60 months at the time. Having an Audi and Tesla, I bought it to haul crap and be a daily driver that was more reliable than the other two cars. I didn't buy a truck to baby or try and make luxury, though I did add Clazzios, but that's because I hate static electricity haha.

I still wrestle with this and you are swaying me back into the thought of purchasing the whole bundle. I am 58 and am viewing this as my last go have fun and adventure vehicle as I ride off into the sunset. The $5,900 is a lot of money, but is not really about the money. I just don't like paying for shit I really don't need or care about. I have had heated seats since 2002 and love them. I have had sun roofs in two of my cars and rarely used them. Just something else to break and leak in due time (we permanently siliconed our 19 year old suburban sunroof closed three years ago). I plan to keep this vehicle for at least 12 years - mtn biking, skiing, hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, kyaking, etc. No hardcore 4-wheeling, just want to get where I need to go and have fun while doing so! I think I am back on board with the premium package as much as it grates me - the chrome rear bumper really pisses me off on the base TRD OR! Why should the tech package include the color coordinated rear bumper? I really want the heated leather seats, the JBL, the LED lights, and color coordinated rear bumper - barely $2,000 I would guess in cost upgrades! My wife would appreciate the Tacoma more with the Premium upgrades - priceless!!!!

Good luck with your search! I have put the search on hold till 2021 for tax purposes and lack of inventory!

I recently bought a 2021 DC TRD OR manual transmission with the premium package, advanced technology package, and LED lights. I have no regrets. I think the packages are a good value and I’m enjoying all the features. The seats are excellent and the premium audio sounds good and works well. The 360° camera is overkill and I’ll likely never use it but everything else has been worth it. I especially like the blind spot sensors and rear collision avoidance which are features I came to enjoy on my Volvo. I say go for it.

Thanks for your feedback! I am inclined to agree with you to make the vehicle most comfortable and enjoyable for the 12 years I anticipate having it. Thanks again!

Must have relaxed a little. When I pulled the trigger and committed to my Tacoma, around the 3rd week of October, my dealer in Pittsburgh said that he found one with the options I wanted in the Cleveland area. So, naturally being curious while awaiting its delivery, I did a Google search of Cleveland area Toyota dealers. I had to search a few websites before I found a truck on the website for Metro Toyota that matched my purchase. Sure enough, that is the one I got. Anyway, the several sites I checked to the Cleveland area then were offering anywhere from $1000-$1250 dealer discount, as opposed to the maximum $1000 dealer discount I found in the Pittsburgh area.
