    Yes, it is.

Unsprung weight and rotational mass are two different things. One affects suspension performance, the latter, vehicle efficiency.

Point? Simantics...OP used the term "unsprung weight".

I bought E ply because that's all that was available in the tire I wanted in 255/85R16. I've gotten used to the way E ply feels and I definitely prefer it. I went back to SL tires for my winter set before buying a new set of winters and it gave me a very strange floating sensation which I think must just characteristic of riding on softer lighter tires exacerbated by using E ply for 6 months.

C rated KO2 265/70/16 don't exist. If they did I would probably have them.

honestly if you are hauling a "E" weight load in your bed you better have another suspension to supplement. If you are an parking lot off-road king or towing a one-ton trailer (with appropriate tongue weight) you are fine with C rated or SL rated tires. The stock TRD OR 4x4 came with P rated tires. Both P and C rated tires are easier to keep balanced and both ride better than E rated. I'll be staying with Michelin LTX A/T2 P265/70r16.

Because the Cd wrap around an object more compared to an E rated tire, would it be correct to think that puncture resistance would be similar between E and C?

meaning the C has less ply to resist the puncture but is more willing to deform around the object that would potentially puncture the sidewall so therefore reducing punctures (within reason). Where the E just has more plys so it’s stronger and doesn’t puncture as easily

Not trying to be a dick here, but E load does not have 10 plies. Not sure if you knew or not.

    I’ve had both 265/75/16 e rated KO2’s and 265/70/17” c rated KO2’s. I’m currently running the c rated 17”s and like them way more the the e rated 16’s.
I’m sticking with c rated on this truck

I loved how the E loads took the corners on the pavement on my stock sport suspension. It actially handled better than lowered E43 that i drove, no joke.

Hated the rough ride off road though. I got the C load and holy shit, what a difference. Much more plush ride but does not corner as well. I will be getting C loads from now on.

I run E’s strictly for the thicker sidewall. If you ever cut a sidewall the tiny bit of peace of mind is worth it.

What's interesting is my Maxxis 255/85/16 E rated were like riding on horse carriage wheeels.
My new BFG K02 285/75/16 E rated are like riding on clouds.

Finding an air pressure your truck likes makes a big difference.

I was gonna let it go but might as well clarify.
    1. First, that statement in bold is incorrect. Maybe you mean to say that one has a larger effect on fuel efficiency, then yes.
    2. The 50lb example is nice, but add 100 lb and you will see a noticeable change in fuel economy.
    3. OP says unsprung weight and you were clarifying that its truly rotational inertia that will a significant drop in fuel eff. correct

My maxxis felt like riding on horse carriage wheels no matter the PSI. Even 18-20.

My E rated tires have lost very little tread. I got them for two reasons, the so called tougher sidewalls for peace of mind when off roading and to last much longer on the road. I don’t tow anything so it’s worth it to me.
