Looking for quick tent suggestions

Hey all. I'm becoming a remote worker starting next week so am going to FastTrack my truck camping setup. January is a great time to camp in the PNW right?

Going to build a extendable platform to sit on top of my diamondback to put a regular tent on top. I do not want a RTT for portability and price reasons.
Would love recommendations for a quick popup tent (water/wind proof) that can fit a queen size air mattress, preferably with some extra room to sit up in (shoes, buddy heater, ect).
I will build platform to tent dimensions. Ideally less than 6x8ft footprint. If any interest I will make a build thread.

All my Google searches lead to top 10 lists or people who were obviously paid to promote certain tents. Kind of like the idea of quick setup ice fishing tents, but don't think those shapes are appropriate to put 4ft up in the air for wind.

Failing all that I can just get a small cot/tent thing but would like to travel in style. Function>form.

That’s great you have the long bed. I love my DB cover and you have a great idea going here that I never considered.

I’d check out hub or pop up tents. I have a gazelle (setup takes seconds), which I love but I think it may be too large for the surface area of the cover.

There are definitely smaller version from manufacturers out there. Check out the shift pod mini but I warn you they’re not as economical as a gazelle or other pop up tents.

I would also consider a pad to protect your gear and back from the hinges and locks.

edit: I’m sorry I didn’t see the wind issue but you may want to check out Kodiak I think they call the style a swag. Not sure on setup time for this one.

Thanks. The locks won't be an issue. I'm going to build an expandable flat platform.

To extend up to 2ft each side of the truck, giving me a platform up to 6ftx8ft. With plywood or something else providing the flatness. Or regular tubing with holes only where I need them, don't know how much friction it'll be yet. So in short, I can throw any ground tent up there since the platform is flat. And I can tie down to the vehicle instead of stakes.

 

I understand now and quite frankly I’d be interested in seeing your build thread. I know it takes a lot of work but don’t feel obligated. I ended up opting out on a RTT setup due to expenses vs actual use and I like the quick utility of being able to use the Tacoma as a truck if need be.

Sounds like you want your footprint to only extend within the boundaries of the truck. So I’m assuming you don’t want guy lines extending to the ground causing trip hazards etc.

Lots of honest reviews out there. I typically look for longer videos covering 1-3 products instead of the mashups showing ****Top 10 tents you can’t love without!!!one111!!!***

I also have a warbonnet hammock and can tie one end to the db (I installed a center cleat to help with lateral force) as long as I can find a tree or secure object for the other end!

Just a thought. I love seeing DB’s modded and/or adapted!
