If changing the oil on a Tacoma is hard you should probably not do any work on vehicles.

Yeah i had my plastic one break after the first time changing my own oil after the free oil changes. luckily i went ahead and already had the metal one ready to replace. The Dealer put mine on so tight, after it broke the wrench tabs i freaked out because i couldn't get it off. luckily i was able to really overtight the drain plug in the filter housing and get it to where the whole plastic piece to spin.

    2 inch lift.
Wait until you have some one overtighten yours. Metal or plastic that thing just locks up. I busted the metal filter wrench and an impact tool. That plastic did not budge.

I still don't know if it was the techs or the owner responsible for the lack of service. But I learned a good lesson and now I have an upper hand on everything they do. I request to see the old filters when they leave and watch them like a hawk when they do the work. I also tip them $20 each. And the 2 techs that did no work got a $20 tip for doing no work. I should have asked for it back. It still makes my blood boil. I could wrap a water pipe around my head and heat the house.

Having worked at a shop, if you really want to "tip", I would suggest bringing the whole shop drinks or food. If it's a hot day, a cooler full of iced sports drinks is a good choice. If it's cold or around lunch, hit up the grocery store deli area for a few pounds of chicken or other finger food; grab paper plates too.
