Are remote res shocks only a help for higher speed off-roading.
If my goals are performing slow in the rocks and road manners is there any benifits to the remote res?
Are there hi quality shocks to make part of a lift that give the road manners of a king or fox?

I need help. I took my new 2020 Off Road on an old Rail Road trail and it was not that rough but I was getting tossed all over the cab. It was mostly large potholes and I never hit my underside but was "Bouncing" all over the place. What suspension do I need to make the ride more "Plush"? I only went about 5 miles and my back was killing me LOL!!

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Hoping to revive this thread for others wondering the same. Recently ordered some Bilstein 5100s for my 2016 AC 2.7. Question is - if I’m trying to reach between 2 - 2.5 inches of lift in front, would that mean I set it on 5th notch? Trying to avoid UCA upgrades by any means. Also would like to not have completely stiff ride, and not feeling too comfortable about using OME springs. Any input would help!

According to your chart, the 5th notch is where you need to be.

Nothing wrong with OME springs. They're built tough.

My concern is I’ve been hearing mixed reviews when it comes to lifting up the 4 cylinder, due to the weight difference between that and the V6. Just trying to make sure I do it right the first time.

I hear ya there. From what I've gathered, that 5th notch will net you a hair less than your target, BUT since you have the 2.7 (good find, I miss mine) you might end up right in your target range.

    I’m in exactly the same boat... I just picked up a 2017 SR5 ACLB 4x4 2.7.
I’d like to add around 2” up front. A wee bit more is ok. But I don’t want to mess with aftermarket UCA’s or anything else! The truck rides like a dream and I don’t want to mess that up either!
My first thought was to just get 4x 5100’s and adjust them till I’m happy with it then add some 265/75-16’s.
Keep us posted on your progress!

What is your goal with your suspension?

If you want to keep riding like a dream and only want about 2 inches, OME is hard to beat.

Well, I don’t off road much. Mostly just around the property here which is pretty level but it gets very wet in the spring. Ride is primary, appearance is secondary and ground clearance is tertiary.
As long as I can clear 265/75-16’s with zero rub and look good doing it, I’m happy!
When you say OME is the way to go, are you saying OME front springs and rear AAL or what?

You’ll be fine clearing that size tire, it’s the same size I have. My Tacoma is completely stock when it comes to suspension and I had no issues fitting fitting them in. I have the Cooper STT pros too, Which I always considered a beefier tire than most in appearance. I attached some pics for you.

Regarding the suspension it seems like I’m gonna have to trail blaze. I’ve seen on multiple groups were some people leave one side on the fifth notch, and in the passenger side on the fourth notch. Toytec has told me to put them both on third notch and if I get the Taco lean, to go back and add a small spacer. They also advised me that the 5100s aren’t designed for the OME, but I’m a bit skeptical on that. I’d be fine to go with OME but I’m not sure what coil would give me a clean 2 - 2 1/2” lift since it seems like the 4 cylinder Tacomas are raised 1” higher than our V6 counter parts.

Seems like there’s no right way to do it, so I’m hoping whatever I go with initially works.

I’d be totally fine with 5100’s on the 3rd notch if I could still use the factory springs... but what about the rear? Shouldn’t it be lifted in order to stay level?

Seems like another set of 5100’s would be in order...

When I called the Toytec rep, they advised me on a 2 1/2” block. Two reasons for that is first, I’m done wheeling for the most part. My FJ was amazing on that end, and I don’t think I will ever build something like that again. Looking for something to give me a bit of a stance, without dropping bags of money. Second is that I have a LEER shell, so the added 180 lbs is enough to give concern long term, so I added the 1/2 inch to compensate.

A lot of guys will say get AAL, and I agree. But given how the heaviest thing that will be in back will be my lab and a few bags of pellets in the winter? I’ll be fine for now.

265/75R16 will fit stock suspension just fine.

OME makes complete kits. Incredibly robust. And if you're not wheeling hard, they'll last forever.

    Thanks for your input!
I looked around, their website listed an Essentials Kit; 4 shocks (F/R), 2 springs (F) and spacers/u-bolts (R) for a tad over $900.
That certainly would achieve everything I want. Not what I would call a value setup, but if they last a long time and ride well, then it’s worth it to me.
I think it will be a situation where I’ll get some265/75-16’s since the fit w/o a lift and if the looks dictate, add the OME kit.

actually as far as a value setup goes, that's some of your best bang for buck out there. If you get the soft springs and softer shocks it rides like butter. Especially cuz you're not adding a ton of weight or anything like that.

but good call with getting the tires first since you're going to get those anyway. If you like them, great! And if you neededa little more, you know where to look.

Can't wait to see pics of your setup

Unrelated question, will a Rough Country 2 inch front spacer I bought for my 2019 Tacoma fit on my buddies 2020 F150 XLT 4x4? Why or why not?

No, the coil is different (I think). Also it's rough country so throw it in the trash. And this is not me just pandering to certain brands, rough country is known to be cheaply made, poor quality control, and if he does anything other than look at his truck it will break on him eventually. The stuff just isn't safe for anything other than posturing at the mall.

I’m with you that RC makes junk shocks and springs but with a spacer, how low quality can you make a block of aluminum?
