honestly, everything depends on the pandemic status at the moment, This includes the Tuk trip that we were all looking forward to.

If that gets dropped. i might start taking more days off of work and just doing these 3-5 day trips myself. from the sounds of things; Vmuts will be a blast to do - or i might re-do the Round Algonquin Park trip as a solo trip or as a small group again.

Yeah hagerty didn't like it. I had to cancel and pay up before they dropped me. It was weird, my broker told me to keep paying hagerty to avoid the cancellation fee, so when I called him to get the insurance transferred to the new vin they asked for pictures again like they did with my first chassis and I was told to cancel or be dropped.

wow...bullshit! They get you coming and going...and during!!
What was the cancellation fee? I feel thats a better option than being dropped. You get dropped and no one will touch you....this I know.

Yeah that was my fear, and it's a big reason why I want to do everything right. I wouldn't want to have something happen to me then find out that I don't have coverage because I didn't disclose everything. I think the fee was something like $80-120. My premium on the civic before wasn't that high, like 650 a year.

@ODSC1 and myself done it earlier this year, you can find my photos here; https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ontario-bs-thread.249665/page-1492#post-23717540
photos are all out of order - but was about 1000km of trails and road (we bounced onto main roads here and there to get around inaccessible locations or stuff we didn't want to risk)

My suggestion, get the car re-safety inspected (just to appease the insurance ppl), take photos of your car (but not the roll bar), and seek out Hagerty again. I’m with Hagerty and all they wanted was photos and estimated value of my 4Runner. My buddy with lots of very far from stock cars says it’s all he uses.

Any Hot Rod shop will be willing to
Safety a car with a roll bar, just make sure you have your OEM seatbelts installed using OEM anchor points.

Try LakeSide Auto in Wasaga Beach @ (705) 352-3304.

That was kind of my plan. I've got a hotrod shop that I know because my father in law used them to build his Model A. They said they would do the safety no problem for me.

Only issue with hagerty was for me they specifically ask for pictures of the inside of the trunk. I had to send those last time and that was the nail in the coffin.

I was told by Hagerty that they do change their rules in the spring and to check back then so it's possible I could give that method a try then.

Unfortunately from my experience, it is to get a hot safety (cough @Norilsk cough) and don’t say anything about the mods. As soon as the comments of “power” “lift” “roll bar” come up they just deny you. I have sent pics of my truck with bigger tires and flat bed and had said it was used for work, and it is now a camping vehicle. Thankfully no issues but if it gets crashed the value of it is most likely worth lower then a stock tacoma. Looking forward to getting some more info through your question and the responses on here.

It's usually been my experience also for generic insurance. Anytime I've mentioned engine swap or lowering generic companies always just say that they won't insure the car if it's taken out of factory spec.

Hot safety is usually to get your ownership and fit status for the road. Right now I think my ownership lists it as unfit because I didn't have my safety done (right now I'm rebuilding the engine, can't get a safety with no engine lol).

But when I had my first car insured with hagerty I outlined all of the modifications, I had done an engine swap, lowered the suspension on coilovers. Those are the two big ones but Hagerty was totally cool with that. I think their horsepower limit that they will insure is something around 650. It might be worth looking in to. My rate at Hagerty was actually much cheaper than my rate at a generic insurance company. I think I was paying something like $90/mo for basic basic coverage, no fire/theft/glass/comprehensive. Hagerty was 50-65, I can't really remember, for full coverage with $25,000 replacement value.

So far so good on my end, but always a worry if they decide to cancel it. Happened to my buddy, just canned him.

Yup, I used to have insurance like that for years and I really just want to do things the right way. Just be honest and do the right thing, give me an honest premium. I did end up going back and forth with another broker for 3 months and in the end he told me no but they insure a lot of classics, one of which I hear is a 67 Mustang that's got a cage and could be full track spec.

I'm still game for the Tuk trip - but until we hear what's going on with with the pandemic, it's currently put on hold/ probably not going to happen.

the RAP trip however, i'll drag you along :fistbump:

Ah i want to do the RAP on my sled but plans fall through every time

keep us updated on the situation. I’m kinda in the same boat cause my truck is getting close to being outside of dejardin’s guidelines. They said I’m good for now but im starting to think roll cage sometime in the next couple years and theres a lot of legal grey area that comes with them

I'm with The Personal and they never asked for pictures, or even if I had modifications...of course the truck was brand new and maybe they considered that, but even with my used VW I bought, they didn't require pictures.

At the time I had the VW, I'm pretty sure I didn't need to report modifications unless it was over 5000$. I'm sure many of you are well over that but thought I'd throw in my two cents.

Totally, It's been my experience also. Newer cars require less hoops to jump through and usually don't require pictures or anything like that. I had a CRZ when they came out and did similar stuff, coilovers, exhaust. Stuff just to make it look nicer but I never had any issues with insurance.

When you end up with a vehicle over 20 years or 25 years things get a little different. You need to get an appraisal in order to change your ownership, insurance companies are also want to see exactly what they are insuring because really the black book value for these cars is literally zero.
