Picked up my 2015 Tacoma from the selling Dealer yesterday. They failed to inform me that the tailgate had a dent in the top from someone dropping a pipe or whatever. It also had a couple more dings, needless to say... they knocked $600 of the agreed price after I bitched.

So I may try to repair myself thinking a different top piece on the tailgate might cover the large ding and the other I might live with or ?

But I see Amazon and eBay also have factory color match painted replacement shells at less than $400 to my door. Has anyone used these?

PDR is a good option if you can find someone that is pretty good at it.

I bought one of the Amazon tail gates and it arrived in pristine condition. It is easy to install and all the existing lock hardware and panels from your existing tailgate will fit it. It cost me around $400.00 and was easy to install. It looks and fits like OEM tailgate.

Before you go this route, check out the PDR you are considering. Some of these guys do really lousy work.

Having done some very limited body work in the past, somewhere on the www is the Thread I did on rocker panel replacement on a VW new Beadle. I am going to attempt a DYI repair, if that fails a new painted one from Amazon.

Any pics of the dent? I agree with just going with a reinforcement plate for the tailgate. Our tailgate is flimsy to begin with. I went with mobtown offroad plate and cap then reinstalled the factory plastic cover back on. I also added a cheap hydraulic shock to help with the extra weight.

Its a deep dent in the top of the gate rail no paintless dent repair as the paint is chipped. Looks as if a 1 inch steel bar had hit, hard. When the current weather clears I am going to make dent tool shaped as the top rail and try to push (hammer) it back out. Also have a cheap set of body tools coming that may help. Then I hope to find a after market top rail cover to hide the apparent damage. If that fails I will get the one from Amazon.
    Thanks for post.
