The lean is irrelevant, you’ve shooting against a wall with starting and end points. I make sure they’re both going downhill the same amount at 20’ then tweak the driver’s side down a cooty hair more. Especially in the Ford now that i’m running bright LEDs, keeps me from getting flashed. If the lean already puts the driver’s side lower, maybe skip that part :notsure:

Nope, not for a while. I also had the Tacoma on Eibachs with the lean spacer so it leveled it out side to side.

I ran into a similar thing with mine, failed for no middle belt the time I let the dealer do the sticker. Was already there getting new tires and figured get it over with..ugh. Never had any other place care.

Wow, i know they have the charts on the wall but i figured they would just charge you extra and adjust it for you. I've never heard of anyone being turned away because of it. Unless of course you elected to leave.

They basically said if they started the inspection I'd get the Red Racing R and could be popped for it, they could fix the adjustment at $100 / hour or they could just let me do it. I'm shocked they even saw it TBH. They didn't seem to want to sell me the service, so I think they're just being extra cautious. They're a PITA to change. You have to remove a plug in the wheel well and go in that way. There's a thick outer grommet and then a tiny inside hole where the bulb goes, but there's a decent gap in between.

I was doing H9s in place of the H11s. I originally wanted to run adapter harnesses to not risk overheating the connectors, but that didn't fit within the outer rubber boot. So I was snaking in the H9 and it dropped in between the outer opening and the inner hole, so I couldn't reach it. You cannot see the bulb from the outside. So since I was one bulb down, I ended up putting the H11s back into bolt sides. Then I promptly closed the hood on the remaining H9, so ordering a second one wasn't in the cards.

I wish the OEM HID setup wasn't nearly $2,000. Since it's a halogen assembly I refuse to run anything but halogen in it. The stock output is terrible, so I need to decide what I'm going to do, another shot at H9s and risk the connectors or bite the bullet and go with an uprated H11. I just don't want to spend the money right now because holidays. I've been in quarantine for 3 days now and I'm going nutty.

Hey you hear about your frame yet? I’m still hoping for you man!

mass and RI have video coverage for them all now so they have to. Basically they were saying it’s bull shit but if we were nice we can be fined for being helpful to our fellow people. I’m going to stop there before it gets puhliticuhl.

The place i've been going to lately failed me for a brake light out, came out asked me if i wanted them to fix it, (i said yes cause I just wanted the sticker and didn't want to come back even though it's ridiculously easy to do myself and cheap), they changed it and put the new sticker on. And they only charged me the price of the bulb @~$3.00. I'd call that a win. I've also got LED headlights and they didn't give me any grief. But they have a semi-decent cutoff and are aimed halfway decent.

I think it also helped when I got my Landcruiser I took it to them to get some baseline stuff done, then I had them install my lift cause I just didn't feel like doing a lift in my driveway again...and that's how you get my business and make me want to take vehicles to get repaired even when I could do it myself.

Damn. That's kind of crazy, you would think they'd be used to this by now...

Or they have such a volume of claims it's just taking a while. Either way not good.

Was curious about this, because I did dig into this in the lighting thread for 3rd gens. The inspectors will typically say "Not stock lights, FAIL" in a lot of states, when the reality of it is that there are no restrictions about the bulbs themselves. The typical laws are the light height/width to center/ground, and typically the housings/lenses (cannot smoke out lights).

Obviously it's an uphill battle if you do end up with a fixit ticket. But. I had to google Mass to get an idea of it. I'd have to look at

    upload_2020-12-10_9-1-21.jpg

    https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/CFR-2004-title49-vol5/xml/CFR-2004-title49-vol5-sec571-108.xml
(PS a fun bit found below!)

I can't really tell but I think this is where Mass is failing aftermarket lights, plus a bunch of aiming stuff maybe?

    upload_2020-12-10_9-13-10.jpg

Long of the short, when they say "NO AFTERMARKET!"
    1. If it complies to FMVSS 108, you're good.
    2. Aim is checked, so they can fail for aiming
    3. Don't be a dink. The effort you'd have getting the shop to go with it wouldn't be worth it. When I go for an inspection I'm just going to put in my stock headlights I didn't trash the bulbs  ain't worth the time to fight this kind of thing, they won't pull you over for (a normal) aftermarket light.

Here's my fun bit: high mount brake lamps must be set up to provide ease of access per this regulation. Nothing in there about this for headlamps, so they can continue the shenanigans, BUT apparently the 3rd brake light has to be easy to access.

I think basically the bulbs/ HID/ LED etc.. need to be DOT legal, which most are not. However I didn't personally have any issues. :notsure: I think if they're either a stickler or the lights are obviosly going to blind oncoming traffic it shouldn't be an issue.

Yeah I think that's the doc train we'd go down through that FMVSSCIANSA thing.

They probably weren't, but are because now they're on camera and being recorded.

I polished off a bottle of bird dog peach last night. More than I wanted to have but there was just a wee bit left so.... But not heavily so I was a-okay this morning.

Unfortunately have to work this weekend, surprise weekend shift yee haw!

Damn I've never seen those before, I might need to get some if they work good. I just switched between 3500k halogen bulbs back to my 6500k HIDs I like yellow in the snow. This would be a lot easier! I just don't like the fans, suck up dust I...clearly like the mud. Was out with a guy this summer who had a fan/light die on him because of the dust, so I'm a bit weary about that. They probably just checked the aim, if anything. Cool beans! PS MA can probably now review your footage and give that dealership a violation for passing your lights.

A lot of inspection shops don't know what bulbs came in the housing to begin with unless they really know the vehicle or alignment is way out of whack. Obviously, if you drop a non-shrouded HID kit into a standard reflector housing, you'll be able to tell pretty quickly that it didn't come like that from the factory and you could have issues. I have a drop in LED kit in my truck and have been running it for a while and, so far, have not had an issue with inspection. They're aimed responsibly and show a beam pattern very similar to stock so it's not obvious that it's different.

If you have non-DOT stamped housings, you can get dinged for that, that's low hanging fruit. I disable the aftermarket lights on my truck before I go in and the switch is hidden so they likely can't even figure out how to turn them on.

I think, as long as they can straight faced pass you, they're not going to give you trouble. Plausible deniability.
