South Alabama grows some of the biggest deer in the state. Pecan orchards and soybean fields aplenty.

Since this is the AR thread, my AR is for defense against 2 legged creatures. It's my fightin' gun, my freedom rifle.

I’m a state next to you (Ms) and dogs are losing popularity but still pretty common, I don’t necessarily want it outlawed but I’m not a big fan of the guys who use dogs for anything other than tracking hit deer.

Did you get a rider added to your home owner's insurance? Are you comfortable floating me a number, or PMing me? I ask, because I briefly looked in to it about 5 years ago, and my agent almost sounded like he was talking me out of it. I gave him an WAG of what $ amount I think I have, and he gave me a number that was hundreds (I think). I look back, and wonder why he didn't seem to want to deal with it, is it a PITA for his office to draw up? Small sale? Is it more advantageous for me? Of course I've added more inventory since then.
Maybe I should look for a policy outside my home owner's.

I have a rider and my agent was super cool and easy to work with. I don’t recall how much it adds yearly to my premium but it was reasonable

I had a buddy get a bunch of guns stolen maybe 15 years ago and he got less than 25% of what he had in them from insurance. I called my agent to discuss a rider and had a similar experience. She all but refused to do it and assured me I have adequate coverage as-is. I highly doubt that and do not understand what her resistance was. She's older and maybe she thought I was just talking about run-of-the-mill hunting guns, which I probably do have adequate coverage for. However, most of my run-of-the-mill hunting guns belonged to my grandfather and great grandfather and can't really have a price placed on them.

Hmm, seems we need new agents huh?
I'm tempted to let someone quote, but don't feel like shopping it. I'm going to do a search, and see if there's coverage specifically for firearms, like the offerings for classic cars.

The only way to cover guns over homeowners limit is a rider, valuing each gun for whatever you want (within reason). My rider is $XX per $1000 of coverage. It can get real pricey real quick.

Buy a top of the line fireproof safe, and bolt it to the core of the earth. It's cheaper in the long run.

Usaa, for those who have it, will Insure each weapon individually. Minimal fee like $9 and the more you list the cheaper it makes insurance. I have listed one but considering more

I currently have a decent safe and it's anchored. Within the next couple of years my wife and I are hoping to build a house and the master closet will be a grout-filled CMU storm shelter where the safe will reside. Will probably do like my godfather did and build the room around the safe so it can't be carried out.

homeowners policies are not the same state to state, and depending on the state, can be different company to company on what peripheral items are covered.

My plan is to make the room the safe, in conjunction with a backup generator, alarm system, camera system, and dogs as well as being in a rural area and people not knowing about the room it should be pretty safe/secure.

Similar idea here. Room will have a FEMA-rated storm door with extra locks but I still want a safe in the room since it's the master closet and unfortunately may not be locked all of the time. We probably won't be able to afford a generator when we build but I want to wire the panelboard for a natural gas-powered 'whole home' generator to be added later. My dad has one that will power everything except his HVAC system. Will probably do a decent sized UPS system and possibly even solar backup for alarm and cameras.

Is there a dry lube that works in our rifles in sub zero temps and has minimal to no smell?
I typically run my bolt gun dry in these conditions but I am usually predator hunting alone and I hate educating and letting dogs get away not being able to work the bolt and get back on them before they disappear where I hunt.

Ahh, I’m going the safe room/reloading room/gun room all in one route, a room attached to the master bed area with a panel in front of the safe door to be less visible, I’ll probably have a safe in my closet anyway.
I’ll have power, plumbing, HVAC, and internet wired into the room but I think I want to go with ICF walls and a poured ceiling, metal roof covering it to match the rest of the house.
I’m tempted to go the whole home generator route but a guy I know said he has issues with his not working even though once a month it will start and run to keep it in working shape. I may go with a smaller generator system for backup and a PTO powered generator for storm power.

Motor oil, I don’t notice a smell with it and it takes very little.
