I get that but it definitely says on the website that 12v receptacle to the camper is standard, shame on me for assuming it would be wired up and useable I guess.

Yah I assumed that but considering its a free install should have known better. In a way its better for me as I have power running to the back a already and a fuse block in the back I plan to relocate somewhere so makes that a bit nicer for the 12v install.

@mac_2_nite curious to see what you run with. I have been using blue sea buss bars and have a 12 fuse block I repurposed.

 

This will be my fourth light setup I’m wiring up. In my GFC, I built my other LED strips inside aluminum channels with diffusers to custom size, each with their own switch. One on each door, two in the lower bed portion, and two up top with their own switch up there as well as down below. Plus 12v cigarette lighter, plus volt meter, plus USBs. Waaay too much work, too expensive, and that was only white!

I rebuilt the entire light system the first time GFC took my camper back to fix the hinges, because they destroyed it in the process.

Then, they took my camper back again, and killed the lights a third time. After that I just did Matt Gecko’s LED strips made for GFC, way too easy. Expensive, but easy. AND he had red strips which I liked.

This time I’m going rock lights in the back, 6 of each in white and red. All inside the bed, nothing on the doors. I’ll end up mounting exterior lights to hit the outside areas. I went with cheap Amazon rock lights, but I may upgrade bc they don’t seem too bright.

Upstairs I’m trying out BajaDesigns dome lights, in white and red. They have an integrated switch already on them, and I think they’ll fit perfectly on that 45° track up there on the top rail. One white and one red to start, I never needed much light up top anyway.

@JasonLee so, I’m thinking I need a full negative bar and a full positive bar with 6 each. I found these on Amazon which I’m going to try, but they seem a little shitty:

In the past I daisy chained a lot of shit, so I’m trying to make this install cleaner with the wire chase.

I used one of these to bring the power into the bed cleanly, on the rear passenger side:

Yeah, standard as in they give it to you lol!

Wiring up someone’s shell, aside from a third brake light which they could totally do especially for Tacoma’s, is tricky. It would add time to an install, the choice of adding a fuse block, which side power comes from, etc and so on. Maybe they change the wording, but I didn’t have the expectation of them hooking it up.

But I’m pretty intimate with my electrical since I’ve fuckin yanked it four times now haha

 

yeah i def wasnt going in expecting them to wire anything up. coming in with an SR i dont have shit running to the bed, so im starting from square one anyway. honestly, i dont even know where to begin haha

 

There are numerous threads on it, I figured out my own method. I put a blue sea fuse box on top of my stock fuse box cover in the engine bay. I don’t have too many electrical accessories on my truck, just one LED bar in the grill, a trailer plug for my air compressor, lights under the hood, and a 16ga line running back to the bed.

So I just have one fuse for the entire bed draw(which is just LEDs, 12v cig socket, and 2 USBs w/ volt meter). I wired a 15amp switch to control power to the back, so I don’t run the battery down. I never run everything back there at once, and I’ve left the lights on overnight without killing the battery.

Simple, works for me, and ‘probably electrically sound or whatever.

 

I hear that.... but when you buy a camper shell or cab over camper install is usually included. If it sounds like I’m griping, I am. But only because I hate working with electrical stuff, not because I’m dissatisfied with SP.

hahaha it doesnt sound like a terrible idea, id love to see some peoples build outs. im almost thinking of starting a pizza business out of it on the side, those threaded bosses allow for some big ideas

 

Did anyone want to share any buildout plans or inspiration pics for what they plan for the interior? as ripRavioli mentioned the threaded bosses and other tie off points provide for great flexibility!

There are three “cubbies”, for lack of better term, on each pillar corner of the X-1. They're held in by bolts that thread into the rivnuts you can see in photos SP has posted

Yes those. The one and only one I got is black and has two 1.5” holes that accept most round switches/accessories

I ordered two full sets (24 total) for experimentation purposes

The molle panels looked interesting but I have some ideas for things I’m going to mount that don’t require so much obstruction. Spencer told me they order in batches, which is why they didn’t have the covers there on hand
