A dealership in Huntington Beach, CA just told my brother in-law after some negotiations that went south that if he wasn't happy with pricing or inventory right now, to wait until Spring 2021 when they expect inventory to be much better. Not sure how certain this is with COVID-19 panic and cases on the rise. I would think if mass shutdowns and restrictions occur again, then the factories may slow their production/work force as well which will put us right back in the place we were in about 6-8 months ago. . .

    Hi All,

I am new and this is my first post. I am currently searching for my first Taco and looking at a 2021 TRD Sport. I appreciate all the insight and information has been shared here. I wanted to take a moment and share what I have found.

The local Toyota dealer to me in is in Tri-Cities WA and it is a no haggle dealership which currently is taking off between 2200 (MSRP 41687) and 3500 (MSRP 43952) on all their listed models I have spoke to them and they say they list all cars at 500 over invoice not sure if that is true or not. This does not include the 1000 toyota incentive currently offered in the region.

In talking numbers with them there are taxes, a negotiable $150 Doc fee and a 256 license Fee and thats it. They seem straight forward.

Just thought I would share for people in the area, or close enough to make the drive to save some $$$.

    Thanks

We are almost twins. I'm soon to be 54 and looking at it the same way. I've never spent over $20k on a new vehicle for myself. I always go budget.

That was my issue! Last time I bought a vehicle, similar to the Tacoma actually, was back in 2006. I paid 21,700 out the door for my Xterra, it had 10 miles on it. Now at the end of 2020, I'm paying close to double. 38 and some change. Thinking about it too much gives me a rash.

    • 1997 - Mazda B2300 Pickup (Basically a rebranded Ford Ranger) - $14.5K
    • 2004 - Honda Element (this splurge included electronic locks and a AUX input for the radio!) - $20k
    • 2021 - Eeeek - $40k+ if I eventually find what I want. MSRP is around $45 to $46, I have mentally given myself permission if I can find the specs I want and get it at $42.5k
Mkaes me want to laugh, makes me want to cry. My wife has a 2013 mini-van that was about $33k with just about all the bells and whistles, so I am somewhat prepped mentally. Still seems crazy.

That auxiliary input on your 2004 element is massive splurge at the time! Ha. I paid Best Buy to put one of those in for me, I think I paid 100 bucks. But I felt super happy about bei6able to play my phone throu6the car radio.

Doesn't take much to make me happy. All the stuff I thought was a fancy add on now comes stock on everything.

2021 TRD Sport, Access Cab, 4x4, manual transmission, in Army Green.

I agreed to pay MSRP ($36,010) plus a "dealer processing fee" of $845, because this combination was hard to obtain.

When this truck was being built, the factory added LED headlights (a $485 option). The dealer agreed to throw those in for free since I hadn't ordered them.

Toyota is offering a $1,000 cash rebate for the month of December.

My total OTD price, including taxes and fees, is $37,500.

Here in the Northeast USA the inventory levels were on the slim side. I made an offer for a 2021 SR Double Cab 4x4 and was told to go pound sand (essentially). They would not negotiate. So, what did I do? I bought the Tacoma seen on the right at a different dealership. It is a Silver TRD OR 4x4 with auto (incorrectly listed as a sport). The white TRD OR on the left came with manual but was already sold when I called the dealer so I took the Silver bullet. It came with all weather floor mats and door sill protectors (seems to be the standard accessory for Tacomas here on the northeast), mud guards, rubber bed mat, and wheel locks. In total, about $560 in accessories. It was the last new Tacoma on the lot. Not the best of deals but ok considering the situation. Hope this helps for those looking.

No. I have never bought a vehicle across state lines before and didn't want to give it a try, with registration and all. So, the Pittsburgh dealer went to Cleveland and brought the truck back.

Comedy. Luckily, that’s why you’re here. To sift out all the dealer BS. A dealer tried adding a $1200 “fee” at one place I went to and the manager agitatedly said “Do you think we made it up?”. I Just bit my lip, laughed in my head and moved on.

Costco is supposed to be $500 below invoice but dealers lie like rugs about how it works, added bs fees, etc especially nowadays when it’s a price usually lower than where they want to be. In normal times it’s good but on the lower end of the good deal spectrum. This is from 2016 So it’s not accurate, especially with the SR5s which have narrowed the gap, and doesn’t include destination fee but it gives you an idea.

@Tholdswo was there any or much haggling to secure your financing thru the credit union and acceptance with the dealer?

How it worked was CU was offering 1.9% new car special in Sept and Oct. I have been with them 31 years and my Credit Score is outstanding. They told me I qualified for an even lower rate of 1.31%. At end of Oct I called them and explained the delay and build date with delivery expected 12/9/20 and they offered to keep the rate for me until then. I told dealer in August I would likely take any rebate over financing. Dealer asked me on delivery date what my rate was to see if they could beat or match. When i told them 1.31 he laughed and said not likely.

When it comes to stereo systems there’s obviously a really wide array of opinions as to what is good/worth the money. But similar to you I didn’t care about all the other stuff so I just got an absolute base $38,085 OR then had the local stereo shop that works with the dealership install a kicker key amp and kicker KS component speaker system before I even picked up the truck. $1200 installed and added into the price of the truck. Put in a small JL sub myself. I’ve never heard the JBL stock systems. Again, some people say they sound pretty good. But pretty much everyone says that the aftermarket systems blow them out of the water. I figured for less money, might as well be safe and get what I know I’m going to be happy with. And plasti dipped The bumper caps black for $8. Looks really good

Good deal. So an allocation order AND they negotiated price with you. I keep getting "no discount with an allocation order".
