Count your blessings. Something came running across two lanes of traffic in front of me too

I spent 3 years working in a body shop - so take this for what its worth. The advice above is spot on. You will always know its there, but any minor future damage will hurt less.

Unless you are making a show truck this stuff sucks, but happens. Is it worth reporting to insurance? Maybe to some. Not for me. You have a clean carfax and want to keep it that way. Take your time, its not going to get worse. Live with it for a few weeks, then do the repair. Even a trained eye can spot repaint work regardless of quality. Check underneath and make sure there is not unseen damage too.

I went to trade school for autobody and spent a few years in a body shop too... but that was 15 years ago. But I learned alot from it and now my truck is 2 years and 20k miles and still looks showroom new.

I'm sure opinions will vary and I respect them all. Just throwing my .02 out there, for whatever its worth.

I always disliked seeing people bring in vehicles for very minor paint work, only to be disappointed a week later with another door ding or minor paint chip. Sometimes its a never ending battle. Gotta weigh your odds.

man that is shitty. I would just use a touch up pen for now. and then eventually just replace the bumper with a sweet aftermarket one.

I would consider that little chip very lucky. Could have been a whole lot worse. Look at TacomaBeast67's truck. Now that is unlucky.

I also went above and beyond when it came to spit polish and never liked those scratches. Never had ones that couldn’t buff out but looking forward to the new truck that’s coming, I’m having self healing 3M PPF (paint protection film) put on the whole front and down the lower sides to the back. Eventually go for the bumper armour replacement. Think “upgrades” moving forward. If you didn’t have that rock chip or scratch, that upgrade would be a hard sell to your significant other.
