Wherever anybody wants to go is good with me. I have my Oregon ATV sticker for browns camp and the like. Spend most of my time in the gifford pinchot, but there is probably snow in most of my usual go to areas. I'm open to pretty much anywhere within a couple hours drive from Vancouver.

This was 2 or 3 weeks ago, maybe 3500 ft or so? Above sunset falls campground in the GP. Not sure what it looks like this week.

I've ridden the dirtbike trails since 2006, when all they had was the A, B and C loops that have since been given actual names. I have ridden all the 4x4 trails on my bike and a couple with the truck. I used to drive some of the "trails" when they were just logging roads. Trails closed for the season December 1st, open back up in the spring.

Had to sell my 17 Tacoma for a tow rig in order to pull my new home. Still here for a bit to keep in touch.
Ive got a talkabout radio, straps, shovel, air compressor. No winch...

My local stopping grounds are blocked off because of the fire. And I mean police are posted at the gate! Im always looking for new places to go

I’m up for it. But the area I know is all snow runs right now. Does someone know Browns Camp or Hood River OHV?

Lolo pass is a maybe, there is probably some snow but not a lot. But it could be busy.

I didn’t realize it was closed for the winter. Bummer. Looks like a fun trail system.

At least parts of it... it ranges anywhere between 1500 and 3600 feet in that area

I didn’t make it last time, so I wasn’t sure.
just throwing out ideas of possible areas. Seems like Browns Camp might be the only spot without snow.

March? Man. Seems like forever ago! @Astr0Aar0n, I think you need a chance to redeem yourself. It would be interest to see how different it would be with a year more experience now.

Id be to make a run somewhere. Be nice to meet a few members on here. Haven’t done anything other than basic Forest Service and logging roads.

I have a DCLB, couple of Midland radios. Hi lift, shovel, recovery strap, and a need to get out of town.

The conversation above regarding what a guy has in prep for a day trip in the woods got me thinking.

It's amazing what has changed over the years in what were bring to go for day of wheeling. It's like we are prepping for the Camel Trophy event, or other extreme off road event. Almost like we are taking the challange out of a day in the woods. Don't read this wrong, as I am currently guilty of modern upgrades just the same.

Back in the early 90s, I had an '85 Toyota Xtracab 4x4 with a 22R (carbed) w/200k+ miles, 5spd manual, heavy 33" Buckshot Mudders on 15" wheels, stock gears, basic tools, a crappy recovery strap, heavy trucker tire chains for all four tires and just went. I hit the snow/mud/sand as often as I could and rarely with a buddy truck. Had a lot of fun, got stuck, figured it out and still got home after every trip under my own power. I've had my truck buried in snow, buried in mud, laying on its side in a trench, ass end hung up on all kinds of things trying to get through or over obsticles. Somehow, I made it home every day and didn't break anything. Probably not enough power to break stuff, and super light.

Today to get out on a day trip one should have at least some form of communication, shovel, recovery strap, recovery point, tools, water, food, and other basic needs. Somehow due to the interenet and the ease of comparing our rigs to each other, we go full silly with floods of LED lights, super stretchy kinetic straps, wireless winches, traction boards, soft shackles, electric chain saws, GMRS, HAM, Spot/Garmin Sat unit, skid plates, modular roof racks, swing out tire bumpers, on board air, RotoPax or jerry cans of extra fuel, Fox/King/other high end shocks, 16" -20" wheels, automatic transmissions, and tactical everything.

It's a wonder how we can afford to even leave the driveway. Again, I am just as guilty of this as the next guy. I've almost spent more on my 2017 Taco lift alone than I did on my 1985 Toyota itself, and I would take my 1985 Toyota wheeling in a heartbeat if I could find and buy it back.
