I’ve been having no luck with the dealership trying to convince them to apply T-SB-0062-18. Maybe I should tried since I’ve received this letter in the mail today.

That's the low pressure fuel pump recall notice. Just get it done. It's a free maintenance action for a potential future issue.
Besides, depending on your location. If theres a recall notice that hasn't been complied with. Registration renewal cannot be done.

I did my recall and the truck is running a bit better.

TSB 0062-18 (attached) is a tranny software update. Some dealerships won’t update software without verifying that your vehicle demonstrates the conditions listed in the service bulletin but some will. My dealership required a mechanic to drive it before they would do it but he barely got off the lot!

Recalls and technical service bulletins are not the same thing. Recalls are a mandatory service to correct a safety item whether the condition exists or not. A TSB is an additional notification to technicians to correct a problem if it shows symptoms. A dealership can refuse to apply a TSB if your truck isn't showing the symptoms outlined specifically in the TSB.

Then again, the software update takes a handful of minutes. Sounds like his dealership is being a tad stingy

The dealership still has to pay a guy to do the work including validating why it's needed and also make sure they dont brick computer. Why do that if it's not necessary because the truck doesn't show symptoms. If the truck doesn't show symptoms what would having the update do?

Lol The guy is there getting paid anyway. And TSBs and recalls are paid for by Toyota, not the dealer. I see where you are coming from, but the software updates are so quick that to me it's not worth fighting the customer on. Do the update whenever they come in for an oil change and call it a day. Then they don't come back because they've already been updated.

I've got several buddies that were/are dealer techs, and we've spoke about software TSB updates. They all have the same story; how it's handled is decided at the very beginning,, like when the appointment is made. If customers calls and schedules an appointment, and in the reasons for bringing the vehicle in, mentions driving issues related to the TSB, they'll usually start there, it's quick and easy. If the customer's inquiry starts with specifically requesting a TSB update they read on the net,,, dealer is often going to be skeptical and don't want to set a president of customers coming in expecting free updates the net claims they're entitled to.

Yes he gets paid regardless however there is a finite amount of technicians at the dealership to do a day's work so if he's busy flashing software that may not be needed he's not available to do other jobs that may be more legitimate repairs.

If Toyota is picking up the tab for any rework there should be legitimate justification from the dealership doing the work.
