Let's see your FJ case swap

Anyone have a stock fj t case shifter laying around they can part with? The junk yard I got my case from sawed the shifter off.

 

I hate that. My father-in-law’s shop is notorious for doing that.

 

Those of you that bought off car-part are you generally having to drop the t-case yourself? I haven't used that for parts before, so I am new to part-picking. Just curious, as I am seeing one for $550 nearby but its much pricier than others I am seeing at 83k miles. I am thinking this is because it is already removed, and/or this junk-yard knows that its a bit of a commodity lol. Seems most people paid from $200~$400

 

I didn’t. Ordered mine from a place in graham wa. Went to get it and they brought it out to the truck ready to go. It took a couple of days from order to ready tho.

 

Good to know. I was wondering why most are $300 and this one was $500 seems just because of location. I am tempted to do it since it’s five minutes away but I’ll just be patient for a better deal and may just have to drive a bit further and call some places. Mostly just emailed some people so far.

 

Think that one had low mileage too.

 

How do you get the speedo to work with the fj case?

 

transfer the Speedo from the Tacoma case. If you have an automatic you don’t have to do anything.

 

It’s a 6 speed

 

just make sure you have the worm gear on the new case.

 

80k probably worth it but it seemed others with that mileage we’re going for cheaper. Rig currently has 130~ so would prefer the same or less. Thanks for quick replies on car-part I will think about pulling the trigger on this one or waiting longer after I see how an actuator swap out works out.

 

Is the worm gear on the planetary?

 

Thought the $500 one said it had 10k miles? Well one did and the other 68k. Honestly I’d just get the cheapest one. Change the oil in it. Maybe open up to see if any damage but I didn’t when I got my second one. First one I opened up to do twin stick.

 

no it’s on the output shaft.

Does the output shaft on the FJ case have the little balls to hold the worm gear in place?
