    The meter must have already been pulled when they cut the load side.

    Not sure who the hell runs SE cable on the exterior of a house?? Looks like some up north wiring methods.

    Weird. Maybe we're the exception here in the Midwest. We always run conduit from the meter to the panel, and for an overhead service, the mast as well. If it's SE cable, we'll come out the back of the meter into the house.

    That seems so hacky when you're used to running conduit. But, if it's the norm in your area, I'm sure it's fine.

    Newer homes are all underground, so just SE out the back of the meter into the panel. I've just never seen it run exposed like that. I guess it's just different everywhere you go.

    Yep. And our local code is the panel can't be more than 4' from where the cable enters the structure. When I redid our service for 200A the inspector commented that he was "going to let it slide" that my panel was more than 4' from the cable entrance. I looked at him and said I put the new panel exactly where the old panel was and I wasn't moving it regardless.

    I can't recall exactly, but we're allowed a little more than that here. You can go further if you use a meter with a main disconnect.

    If an inspector tells me they're going to let something slide, I have to just smile and say "thank you!" :)
