Additional Bed Liner Securement Points

I am looking to add some light duty brackets / hinge points inside my box to help secure cargo bins while I am off road. (1 x 4 across from wheel well to wheel well, kinda deal)
Do any of you have any suggestions regarding the best way to secure them in the box?

It doesn't need to take a lot of weight, was thinking of just securing it to the bed liner..

any recommendations would be great.

There are a lot of possibilities. I like the bed bolt D rings, accessory rail fittings, and stiffeners for my use. I have a 108qt Plano case that I strap on the right side.

There are also the Toyota nets, bed divider, and bed extender.

Someone recently posted a pic of small D rings that they installed on the cubbie fasteners for light duty stuff.

Me. Which I shamelessly stole from a necro-thread that someone else revived. Great for strapping down the groceries. And they hold more weight than their diminutive size lets on.

Have you ever tried using an epoxy on the bed liner itself to hold a bracket? It doesn't need to be able to hold significant weight, just to house a cross beam to stop the 68qt Plano boxes I have from shifting in the bed.

 

I thought it was you, but not 100% sure and too lazy to search.

 

I suppose that you could, esp with hisol since the bed is GF reinforce material. But for me, I would use what is there already. My box is full and doesn't move at all off road with just a click or two on the ratchet strap.

 

I personally wouldn't attempt epoxy - there are few that would adhere to a poly composite and none of them would be pretty. Drill through and put a plate washer on the other side.

 

Yeah, that would be my biggest hesitation, I don't want it to look hack...

I am new to my Tacoma.. Is it a bit of a process to get access to the other side of the bed liner to install the washers etc..?

 

Nope. The entire bed is what you see. There's no liner. So, the sections seen in the wheel wheels and under the fenders are the outer molded surface of the bed itself. This is most easily seen looking at the two stock loops in the front corners, which have a backing plate on the outer side.

 

Depends on location. I should add the big disclaimer that you should carefully scout both sides of your planned spot. If it's safe to drill you should be able to reach both sides of the bed easily enough. If not, well, good luck with your new gas tank.

I put mine on the bed sides just behind the wheel wells and a couple of inches above the floor. The bed is molded in such a way that this is a decent spot to attach to.

I might add a couple more, and like the spot where you've put them!

Just curious if you are talking about the unpainted loops on the sides? If so, those were stock.

 

I'm talking about the D rings you added in the center of your bed. I bought a couple of these and installed them on my bed sides. I'll take a pic later and add it here.

 

Ah! Those are my most used ones. Being tied right to the frame is great when something needs to be cinched down well.

A couple tips there:

-- Testing the bolts before removal, they were torqued to 60ft-lbs.
-- Do one bolt at a time so that bed doesn't shift.
-- You'll need a T55 torx.
-- I would recommend against grinding the shank on the bolt to remove the washers. A socket and hammer did the deed for me.​

 

This is where I added them... With this placement, there is a rib molded into the back side of the bed as a stiffener and the square backing plate of the D ring can sit against it. The rear wheel well liners hide the back side of the D-ring setup, but you don't need to remove them to install. It took less than 15 mins to install both sides.

 

Probably a little overkill for what you need, but 0-tracks in the bed are great. You can move tie downs anywhere you want on the track and the tracks fit under the bed mat without bulging up.

 

And, four rows of seating if you have a couple old aircraft seats lying around.

 

I have 2 "racing" seats in my basement that will go in when summer rolls back around.
