We have underground service coming to the house. I put my panel on the opposite side of the house b/c it would be in a bedroom otherwise. I did run from the meter to a disconnect for generator purposes then through electrical conduit to the utility room. Our inspector really liked the way we did it.

Nice! Full stand by generator setup? Or, like a manual changeover setup? My last shop did a few a year. They're sweet! Power goes out, count to 10, power is back on!

I went a different route. I put a manual disconnect between my meter and my main panel. Originally it was to put a standby generator to power up automatically. The prices were insane. Now, I set it up so I can get my portable out and use that. I also ran a dedicated receptacle for the portable generator. Everything in my house is set up for dual(Natural Gas or Electric). When we changed out our electric dryer to gas, it left an open 30amp breaker. I ran a new line from the breaker to the dedicated 30 amp receptacle. With this set up, I simply open(shutoff) the disconnect by the meter and open(shutoff) the main breaker in the interior panel. This way the power company personnel are protected from power feedback. I have a Generac 8500watt generator. I also have installed a conversion kit to allow the generator to run on gasoline or natural gas. The only thing I cannot run is my central air conditioner. I just get the generator out of the shop and use a 10 foot generator specific cord to plug into the 30 amp receptacle. It gives us 220 volts for the house. This works well for us.

That's a good setup! And, smart!

You are correct about the whole home setups. They are expensive! You're looking at $$ thousands in material alone, and an install generally takes 2 experienced guys a full day or more. Plus, you need someone to run gas for it, which occasionally requires a gas service upgrade. You're lucky if you get out under $10K

I'm still half convinced it's an SNL fake commercial. Mario Lopez? I don't recall reading where the colonel was Latino and a bodybuilding enthusiast.

    It's a similarly low-budget made-for-TV movie :notsure:

It just looks so bad, though! Or, maybe it's intentionally cheesy.

Yeah, though there's much better options than KFC... We're partial to Bojangles.

I think it's in the same vein as the Spanish soap operas. Cheesy but people watch them.

No Bojangles here, either! (I think)

My favorite so far was Goldrush Chicken. Although there's a place my friends ordered broasted chicken from that was pretty damn good as well! Called Mib and Viv's or something goofy like that.
