Where did you find the switch rocker? Looking for one for mine. So it matches the rest of my otrattw rockers.

only if you want to know it’s in neutral, otherwise you can just leave it plugged at the case.

Finally got the struggle stick out on some trails out west on a Muley hunt. It had just snowed the week before so the two-tracks were trashed, made for a lot of fun wheeling. Loved just leaving the front ADD engaged during the trip as we were mostly on tracks, but then made it easy to just pop the TC in and out when jumping between trails and HWY.

I need to turn off “recently updated threads” and not be curious but this has me curious about doing the swap so I can make my Truck less electronics reliable. Ideally I do a 6speed swap but I can be a little lazy in that regard.

car-part.com has a few FJ cases near to me for under $300. Any automatic trans FJ case will do if my reading this thread is correct?
if I can pickup a case on the cheap and save it for a rainy day I will

that’s right. If you do a 6 speed swap, you’ll need an input shaft from a 6 speed Tacoma or FJ case to swap into the automatic case

Hey all, been awhile since checking this thread. Just curious if anyone has a hook up for shift boots, Im still running my stock one with a hole cut into it. Tried getting one from RST a couple times unsuccessfully. Running a 6spd with the T-case shifter right up along the side. Pictures of my stuff back on page 8. Thanks for the help.

Took me about 8-9 weeks through redline goods. $200 for a quad boot. Itll come from overseas. They can make whatever you want just make sure you leave enough room for shifter throw at the base. They made mine perfectly to my specs and its beautiful, but I wish I had made the rear portions longer from front to back of the shifter opening.

OK, I read like 20 of the 68 pages and will probably read some more but wanted to ask a fundamental question and I apologize if it's already been answered in the ~50 pages I haven't read yet. If keeping the ADD is there no reason to mod the Transfer case to twin stick? If twin stick gets you 2Lo doesn't disconnecting the ADD while in 4Lo do the same? Any concerns with running in 2Lo for longer durations this way? I mostly just want 2Lo for backing in a trailer or pulling a boat out of the water, but I can see other potential uses for longer periods on slower trails where going in and out of 4wd but stay in low would be beneficial.

Also, i was just thinking the one thing Toyota could've done to keep the mall crawlers happy with their knob/switch but keep us 4-wheelers from swapping in a manual transfer case would've been to include a manual actuation in case of emergency. I'm thinking something that hooks up to a ratchet where if the actuator stops working you could manually turn the gear without pulling it completely apart.

I love the idea of a manual transfer case for the aesthetic, feel and reliability, but I'd accept my switch if I could override it when the electronics fail. I went snowboarding a couple weeks back and on a snowy road couldn't shift into 4wd, then when I turned the car off and on again it worked, but i had a heck of a time getting it out of 4wd and was worried I wouldn't be able to drive down the mountain if I was stuck in 4wd. The problem is the failure modes of these things are terrible and leave you completely stuck wherever you are.

So, I'm trying to decide if I should replace what's broken and at least now I know how to manually shift it if needed (taking it apart and moving the shift rod or fork depending on what fails) or go with the manual transfer case and eliminate one 2 of the 3 failure points and keep the ADD (for now at least)

Has anyone had the h-n-l shift rod fall out of gear with the twin stick modifications? It's in a third gen so I'm worried I didn't clearance the trans tunnel enough... I've got a heavier detent spring coming in a few weeks, I'm hoping that solves the issue.

i did at one time. had to get the heavy duty spring from marlin. it basically fit inside the stock spring and made the ball stay in the detent better
