It's got little to do with the gov't and more to do with shipping companies having free reign to charge whatever the fuck they want. Brokerage fees*, service fees, handling fees, and freight fees are all ways they can tack on nonsensical, mostly made-up charges as a way to gouge the public who orders commodities from outside of Canada. Larger items typically get exorbitantly higher fees. There's no oversight and little regulation by gov't agencies up here, so the consumer ultimately gets screwed unless they know of workarounds such as using a parcel handling service in border towns along the 49th to self-broker their shipments.

    * brokerage fees are typically comprised of applicable taxes and/or duties but shipping companies also charge their own processing fees and service charges as part of the brokerage process and those tend to vary for no specific or logical reason

I've managed to avoid spending hundreds of dollars by using a parcel handling service. I highly recommend it to anyone here in Canada who shops frequently online with US vendors. It's easy to set up and the service fees they charge are extremely reasonable, not to mention it helps support local business in mostly rural communities along the border.

Looking good! How much lift in the front? If off roading it do you plan on a diff drop? Just researching before I do any sort of lift. Less than 500 miles and getting my Extang 2.0 hard tonneau cover and 265/75/16 KO2’s tomorrow! :bananadance:

Since I added the new bed cover, the bed divider would no longer fit in the track rails. Today I cut a little bit off of the bed divider on each side so that it would sit between the rails in the truck.

Added a couple of Costco collapsible crates to serve as removable storage

Dude. I agree with you. It is a terrible situation and one that could easily be fixed if anyone really wanted to focus on it. GST is about 5% of the cost and my guess is HST is another 5% or so. So that would account for 10% of the cost which is by far the smallest percentage of the ridiculousness.

The crazier thing is that it is not the other way around. When we buy a crap ton of school clothes for my kid at Roots, we pay USD and get the huge discount and then bring that over the border with no charge at all. So the price gouging only works one way.

When the border opens, I am happy to shuttle stuff into Quebec but that won't help my friends in Ontario or Calgary, sadly.

I didnt get to measure myself how much lift I got. Shop told me it was 2 inches all around.
Front setup is Bilstein 5100 w/Eibach springs and KYB mounts. 2 inch Add-a-leaf in the rear w/Bilstein 5160. A diff drop and Tacoma lean spacer.

thanks! Congrats on your truck! Shop said it was 2inches. I got the diff drop as well, even though i dont plan on wheeling it, but i do take my truck to do outdoor stuff frequently.

I’m from Midwest (minnesota) originally and only moved here 3 yrs ago— agreed I feel like there’s more here than a lifetime could cover- to say nothing of being hrs from idaho/wyoming. Not sure I can ever leave now- two thumbs up.
