Manuals are like butter in these trucks. I am at ~58k and love my 2017 Sport DCSB MT, it is a unicorn. Manuals are the prime breed of between hot / crazy chick scale.

I have a '20 DCSB OR Manual, and I'm considering trading it in for an Auto.
I have literally ONLY owned all manual cars my entire life. I refused to buy auto...maybe I'm just getting old? :burnrubber:

I commute ~40 miles a day on a busy highway, and I gotta say it's pretty annoying.
Not having much low end torque = lots of shifting for any power.
...Maybe I'm just too used to the Audi's I used to drive.

Another consideration was taking it on the trail... I know is debatable but I just picture crawling up some rocks and how much more difficult that would be in a manual vs auto... especially with spotters...clutch/gas, brake, repeat...

I just bought a 21 sport manual. I had a 2016 sport auto and then went to an 2018 Titan. I got the Tacoma because I wanted a smaller truck. I got the manual because I just missed having a manual. So far I really enjoy being back in a manual vehicle.

thats a shit trade considering autos are worth more plus way easier to sell to the general public.

I bought a 2016 SR5 auto after owning nothing but manuals for years because I was ready to accept that they were an anachronism. Four years later, I traded it in for a 2020 OR manual. YMMV

I do not understand "Not having much low end torque = lots of shifting for any power." If you want more power, shift less and let it rev. Yes no? Confused.

Just not a fan of "let it rev." More of just what I was used to probably from driving Audi's. I can hit the gas from a dig (~2k rpm) and get some output. With the Taco, not so much... Gotta downshift, hence more shifting IMO.

Do it! Wish I had a manual trans. See if he can bring it to 29.5k

Ok, but that's going to be far more annoying with an auto. Search for all the AT "gear hunting" threads on here. At least with the manual you have a choice of when it shifts. That said, I didn't have a big beef with how the AT shifted. It just took some practice and tactical use of ECT. I just like to drive the manual a lot more.

It will be worse feeling for you in the automatic as the diff gearing is 3.91 compared to 4.30 for the MT, so you would feel even less torque.

Yeah, I'm aware of the gearing for manual vs. auto, but I plan to run 5.29 gears on 35's for the build.
I read up on the auto-trans and saw it was a big complaint on the forum.
Seems like with OV Tune and 5.29's with Auto, it'll be alright.....I hope :fingerscrossed:

90% of TW has an automatic and most are very sore when people say that:
-manuals are harder to come by
    -sell faster
    -retain better resale

It’s true that not everyone can drive a manual but the people that want them go above and beyond to find one because most are enthusiast (or stubborn). Any Toyota dealer you call, if they have a Tacoma on the lot will most likely be an automatic.

It's hard to find manuals because dealers struggle to sell them. When I was shopping for a manual C7 Corvette every dealer I went to told me the same thing, "we don't order manuals for inventory because they sit on the lot too long". 2019 was the last year GM offered a manual Corvette. I don't expect manuals to be offered in Tacomas too much longer.

Someone buying a Corvette is something totally different than someone buying a Truck...

It's no difference with a truck. Visit (5) truck dealerships tomorrow and see how few manuals you see on their lots compared to autos. When I purchased my 2018 TRD Sport, I bet there was 20 auto Tacomas on the Toyota
lots I visited to every manual.
I hate to see it, but manual transmission vehicles (cars or trucks) are a dying breed.

I’m talking target audience... generally speaking the person getting a Corvette is usually a different kind of person than the one getting a truck. They are very different vehicles.

Yeah you are totally right you’ll see more automatics because they make more of them. In general they do sell more autos than manuals but since they make less manuals the people that are looking for them go above and beyond to get one. When I was on the market for a truck in the summer I was looking nationwide for a manual and it was very very hard to find one. I had a list of automatics that I was somewhat interested in and they sat at the dealer for over a month in most cases.

I just read yesterday that Cadillac is introducing new Manual transmissions due to interest from the buying public

It's simple business logic, manufacturers build and dealers order for their lots the vehicles they know they will sell in the shortest period of time.
Not a lot of sales opportunities for manuals considering only 18% of the American driving public can operate one and not all that know how will purchase one.
