Things are going well. The business I'm working for has managed to survive without any furloughs and we have actually had a few above-average months, which is awesome! I feel very lucky to be where I am right now. I take it things are good there since you got another airplane?

Good stuff.. yep 3 planes working pretty non-stop. The first one I got is a leased plane so I'm focusing on giving it back to the owner and buying a 3rd plane. Tired of paying him to use his plane :p I've got 4 pilots working for me - they're all lucky to be working these days I reckon.

So, how’d you like the garmin stuff? It’s amazing how accurate all the weather stuff is as far as storm/cloud tops and turbulence is concerned. Just have to remember that it’s about a 10-15 minute delay for the nexrad stuff. The new software version coming out has vfr sectionals and hi/lo route charts as a map option.

No personal aviation experience. But during my HS and early college years (late 80's/early 90's), I help a good family friend re-fabric and paint a Piper Cub and Super Cub and helped repair/rebuild a Cessna 195 that he had crashed in the 70's. He was a retired Lockheed Martin engineer. He did all the metal fabrication in his shop/garage. He taught me a lot! Gawd...I remember all those clecos, rivets and metal blocks for attaching the skin on that 195. I was pretty small back then and was inside the narrow parts of the fuselage and tail assembly when he was riveting from the outside...no hearing protection. He did take me flying a lot. All that work kept me out of trouble. Fun times.

As an Air Force officer my father had a very different take on Gen. Yeager.

I loved it. This one could display the VFR sectional and IFR charts on the MFD like you’re describing. The MFD splits in two halves and you can have the IFR on one side, and weather on the other, or any other combination of any of the charts you want. There’s almost too much customization with the system I feel like

My father retired as a USAF Major in 1987 and from his lifetime experiences in aviation, did not hold Gen. Yeager in high regard. My father is 86 now and served at at time when the network of USAF pilots was smaller and current with those who knew Yeager. Maybe he was different in his later years but for the majority of his career Yeager wasn't well liked by most other aviators. Hell maybe because he broke the sound barrier and that was an amazing accomplishment at the time. No jab at you.

It's kinda like Gen. Puller in the USMC. His history is taught as a quasi-religious element in Marine Corps History. It's not until you meet people who served under him and said that he would sacrifice anyone to build his ego. For me, that eclipses the idol worship for most Marines who only know the history they're taught.

I can buy that. Chesty, LeMay, Yeager. All have a nearly godlike aura around their name. I could totally believe they bought into their own hype over time.

Are y’all saying great pilots have egos and other pilots might have jealousy issues?
