Driving my 4.88 geared, 285/70/17 tired taco with quite a bit extra weight with the camper top and some additional stuff and at around 75-80ish mph in cruise control the taco didn't really want to ever shift into even 5th gear. If I took it out of cruise control it would go into 5th and sometimes 6th in downhill sections. This of course means the difference between 11-12mpg and 18-20mpg on my drive. That justifies the price of OVTune right there if it will help.

The current 2.0 version does. The old, outdated versions do not

I received a reply from OVTune that said the tune does not change the shifting logic for the adaptive cruise, but its still planned for the future. The rest should work better.

I’m not OVTuned but you can use S mode to manually switch to 5th/6th

but, with no gear lock tune from OV, even in Smode, in 5th, or 6th, the truck will downshift, when it reads it need to have more power, to maintain speed. unfortunately, the latest 2.0 from OV, doesnt have gear lock features.

the gear hunting in cruise (standard, not adaptive), is what DRIVES ME INSANE, with this truck.

so to answer the OP's question, it does not totally cure it. Ski

That isn't how S mode works. Setting S mode to S5 just limits the auto to 1-5, it doesn't force it in to 5th gear.

No CC has not been unlocked to make changes to. Once CC is set it has its own map file it follows over rides current tune you have flashed. We have been told vftuner will get a update to allow us to make adjustment to CC settings but that will be in a future update. We are all waiting for that to happen, all that is lacking on some of the custom tunes that are out being used.

75-80 with extra weight and tires and the extra's you have on your truck you are never going to get that kinda mileage!

I dont know much about ATs, but doesnt the S mode just prevents the tranny from shifting higher that the gear you selected?

For example, S3 prevents the tranny from shifting higher than 3rd gear.

Current stock S mode allows you to shift it manually but it will over ride S mode if you do not shift at certain RPM. Only gear lock with ovtune allows you to have complete control of upshift and downshifting.

Indeed it does ! The truck will downshift and up on its own . you can set S mode to 5 or 6 and it will shift to those gears or you can manually shift it to any gear but it willm not let you over rev any gear like you can with gear locking!

So you are telling me, if you select S6 when lets say cruising at 40 and it will go into 6th gear?

Not sure if 40MPH will allow it to shift to 6th why would you want to be in 6th doing 40? But yes if you set S mode to 6th gear it wll eventually shift to 6th as needed.

Austin there are guys in the Denver area that will tune you! There are some really good custom tunes guys have created with the vftuner that will help with your issue's your having. Check in the vftuner thread. You are at a higher elevation so thats not helping.

Hm. I can cruise in 6th on flat ground going 40mph, about 1200 rpms no problem. The 4.30 rear end makes that possible i guess
