My wife got one from Yeswelder for the class we took. Our instructor had several of the Vulcan one in the shop. The yeswelder is pretty nice for the money, and IMO better than the vulcan. Good, large viewing area.
i don’t remember which model, but could find out pretty quick if you need.

I really need to do this more often. I'm always amazed how a stained lense hinders your welding

As it gets degraded so slow you really don`t notice till you install a new one.

Might be a cause for people getting flashed the sensors are slow detecting the arc or don`t see the arc at all.

Probably referring to 208v found in some apartment buildings with split phase power distribution?

I have one and I really, really, like it. I had the $40 harbor freight auto dimming one and upgraded to the Vulcan. Night and day difference. I can actually see what the fuck I’m doing. Use this if you get it, they can scan it off your phone.

maybe... and that would be a one legit reason for seeing the voltage under the 220v originally mentioned

That's interesting to hear. I have the blue sticker HF autodiming one and it seems to work fine for seeing what I'm doing.

That is, once I figured out there was plastic film on *both* sides of the inside removable plastic piece instead of just one side. DOH! :anonymous:

Can you give a better send of what sort of improvement you saw? I ask only because it seems I can see okay with the one I have, so I'm not sure what I'm missing.

    Good deal.

For any HF purchases, always check the item number against http://www.hfqpdb.com

Understandable. Though when I'm welding I'm right up close, so the viewing area on the HF blue sticker cheapie hasn't been an issue so far. Always happy to learn what I'm missing though!

When it’s not dim, I can see what I’m doing as far as fitting up parts, grinding, etc. When laying the bead, I could see the puddle a lot more clear and better manipulate it. Its also a whole lot more comfortable to wear. If the low cost one is all you’ve ever tried, you’ll be surprised what a nicer helmet can do.

So today I did a project I've been meaning to do for a while. Floating dock at the lake, which I move based on lake level, and use big pins to secure the end of the gangway.

Guy who'd made the pins really did a sketchy job on welding the angle iron to the top of the pin and it popped off of one the last time I was driving them into the ground.

Spend a bit of quality time with a cutoff wheel and grinder, cleaned everything up, and welded it back together.

I was impressed with this HF Titanium 170 on 120V - this is about as heavy a job as I expect to do, and it seemed to handle it fine for what I needed done.

Some pics of my amateur ugly welds - still way better than what I'd paid someone else to do, so there's that. :hattip:

Will look into that, thanks for the greater detail. I appreciate it.

Edit - have actually been thinking about getting one which I can put a 1.5x cheater lens into - saw that at Northern Tool, for Lincoln I think. I have dewalt safety glasses with cheater lenses at the bottom that I've been wearing but it's not the best solution. Getting old sucks sometimes, but still beats the alternative.

I’ve been using a Miller digital elite for years with no complaints. A good auto darkening helmet with adjustment and big field of view makes welding easier and a lot more fun

I run a Miller Elite as well, coming from a HF big window single shade.

I like how I can adjust the Elite darker or lighter.
With HF I would wear safety sunglasses to make the shade a tad darker. I thought it worked good, especially when I needed to run the plasma.

The Elite has "grinding" mode, but I never thought it worked that good.

I talked myself into spending the $200+ for the Elite. I do think it is nicer than the HF big window single shade, but I don't think it is $200 better.

I use the HF hood in hard to get to places as I'm not worried about beating the shit out of a $39.99 hood and I never worry about the hood making an expensive sound if I knock it to the floor from someplace high.

Had to modify a bracket for a hoist. Had some 1/4" stock laying around and decided to burn some metal. Ended up going through my second spool with this machine and had to change out mid project. I was afraid of burning through the cheap sheet metal bracket so I ended up under cutting the 1/4" quite a bit. Probably needed a little more wire too. Turned out okay...

This place is gonna cost me money...

I have from HF on sale last year for something like $40. Not a big window on the world but hasn't seemed limiting -- though I typically just flip it down when about to strike arc. I do imagine a fixed-shade model would more limiting.

Definitely something to look into some more. Thanks.
