Here are some pictures of a home made socket organizer that I made probably 25 years ago (back when I had more time than money). Base is a scrap of 1/4" plywood painted white. Pegs are dowel pins (cut in half) inserted and glued into drilled holes in the base and the labels are cut from a socket label set.

Sockets are easy to install and remove and stay in place. It's easy to find the right size socket because everything is labeled. It's easy to see at a glance if any sockets are missing at the end of a job because every space is filled.

Unlike commercial setups, the are no extra spaces that I don't have sockets for, I don't have sockets that don't have a place and there is no wasted space between sockets. And it's dirt cheap to make and can be added to when your collection grows. I just cleaned it up and added another row for some new sockets that I got.

 

I noticed this big time with my stubby impact. It couldn't remove the lugnuts on my car that were torqued to 85 ftlbs with the 2ah battery but it was able to remove suspension bolts that were torqued to 145 ftlbs no problem with the 6ah battery.

 

Tekton 3/8" drive torque wrench came in.

 

I have the 1/2” and I like it a lot. It’s big af and it’s nice having the increased leverage.

Nice! I have a craftsman 1/2" with digital read out that I bought from sears in 2017. I've had my eye on 3/8" drives for a while, I've needed it a few times so I pulled the trigger on this one.

Really happy with my Tekton stuff so far. Keep us posted with any other Tekton stuff you guys end up with.

 

I love all my Tekton stuff. Only some of the extensions and chrome sockets in the foam are tekton.

 

Any issues with their impact bits?

 

their u joint swivel sockets did not work well for me. The splined pin got loose and sent the joint flight across my shop one day. I got the impact rated one but obviously it’s not up to par for the task. I have since switched to a ball joint style swivel socket and am much happier.

 

I've had the impact socket sets for a few years. No issues at all.

 

No the impact bits for the driver here.

 

Oh lol I've used them a few times while doing break jobs. No issues.

 

I have a Genius 2D that I mounted under the seat on my ATV. It doesn't get the garage space in the winter, so I figured leaving the battery plugged in helps ensure it always starts when I need to clear snow.

Might have to pick up one of these. It would take up less space than the jumper cables I keep in my truck.

 

They still make those hammer powered impact drivers! Just proves somethings are to good to be phased out.

 

I actually just bought one yesterday at HF. $8.99 then I had a 25% off my entire purchase no restrictions so it ended up being $6.75. (Uncle works for HF and it's some family deal he sends me a couple times a year ) I have a couple old Honda's that use JIS screws, impacts help get those out with out stripping the heads.

 

I've got 4 battery impact wrenches and 2 air impact wrenches but damn if there's nothing better then a hand impact driver to loosen a rusty rotor bolt.

 

Anybody in here have any experience with the Rapidair Maxline brand of compressed air hoses and fittings for stationary shop set up ?

specifically looking at the 1/2" Maxline kit

IN a and rotate is sometimes better than just a shocking rotate. I need to replace mine, I loaned it out, and of course they broke the #3 Phillips bit and some how managed to mushroom the end. Damn gorillas !
