Well my buddy finally got his xj up and running so we went exploring in some of the local hills after riding mammoth for a bit. Went down a steep dirt hill to access a different road. Got to the other road and realized it was very off camber and we generally prefer the roof in the air and tires on the ground. So...back up the hill. Air down, 4lo, punch it. No go. After fiddling around and trying different aspects of the hill the Jeep managed (barely) to get all the way up. I couldn't get past about 2/3rds. So out come the traction boards. I mean they worked in the sense that I would've had to leave truck out there if I didn't have them, but one of them broke in half after a couple of uses. But hey on the bright side could now stock them under 3 tires and keep inching up the hill lol. First day using them and break one in half, not super impressed. Maybe I'll spring for maxtrax now.

Or just get a trail rig. My 97 4Runner is built mainly for trails. It still cruises 75 MPH down the highway without an issue.

Yea id like to get a second vehicle that I don't care so much about damaging. Xj, 4runmer, whatever. Parking is an issue at my place though so it'd be a bit of a pain. I don't have really any where I could leave it on jack stands over night while I work on it

If I had to work on my rig outside instead of in my garage I wouldn't be thrilled for sure.

I'd settle for a flat driveway

    10/10 post, I laughed.

But also cried because I was hoping the review would say they're great and don't bother spending $500 on traction boards

That's one of my few "not a chance without it" criteria when I'm looking at houses.

We'll drive by a place for sale and my Wife will say it looks like a nice place we could check out.
Are you kidding me? That driveway was like 30 degrees, what am I going to do with that?

Do you have another pic of those? I think they are the same as XBULL and a bunch of other eBay exclusive boards. Similar price point, likely same quality. I wonder what the value is if you replace these for still a third of the price (even if they do break).

edit: BOAR is totally the same as those eBay boards.
