Interior Molle Racks- safety concerns

Hi, I am considering some center console Molle racks and wondering if there are any safety concerns in the event of an accident. Seems like they could pose a risk if they came loose or were smashed sideways? Or am I just overthinking it? I like the idea but just wondering if this has been addressed- by the manufacturers possibly?

Most of the area inside the cab is rigid enough that in the event of a crash the cab wont buckle causing the racks to come loose. The bigger issue with these racks in a crash is what you mount to them. If you have a fire extinguisher on there and it comes loose in a crash, you now have a giant metal wrecking ball flying around the cab.

 

No more than any other loose items in the truck or projected objects coming into the truck..... or the accident itself

 

True, but they are a fairly good sized piece of stout metal, I don't typically have a lot of that in the cab.

I wouldn’t be worried about the panel itself. Just consider what you are mounting on it. Use your best judgment

The console mounted type I am not super concerned about. If you are really concerned, what you can do is instead of screw mounting them, I’d mount using bolts and fender washers on the inside of the plastic. Much more stout install in the event of a wreck. If you get hit hard enough to crumple the central body hump, you’ve got other things to worry about.

I do tend to agree, loose drink cups or groceries in the rear seat are more of a “risk” than those molle panels

In an accident, everything inside a vehicle is a potential projectile. I was involved in a rollover and a loose twenty dollar bill got impaled into the headliner trim piece. Imagine what that bill could have done to your face...

 

You all have put my fears to rest. Thanks for the input all! Now to decide which brand. Leaning towards Cali Raised. Any feedback regarding the different vendors?

 

I’d just add that you should consider low-profile heads (button-head hexes, maybe) on the bolts; and keep in mind that a lot of rollover injuries occur when people are hanging upside down and unbuckle, crashing headfirst into the inverted ceiling. That ceiling is now going to have metal edges and exposed bolt heads and whatever else you have attached to it. And, of course, anything strapped up there may come loose and hit you and your passengers in the face or arms or whatnot if and when there’s a crash.
