Yellow is far superior in less than idea weather conditions like fog and snow. The white light mainly appears brighter because of the higher color temp of the light. But not necessarily brighter in terms of actual output. If you want the best of both worlds, get the Diode Dynamic SS3 fogs in selective yellow. And you can swap to a clear lens which will give you the 4K white light.

Picked up a set of the SS3 Pros in selective yellow, loving them so far. I've got them aimed a bit more out to the side and they're filling in where I would normally need a ditch light. Drove home in some pretty hairy conditions today and they were great cutting through the blowing snow and letting me see the edges of the road. Pictured with my BD Squadron Pros in driving pattern also on, which normally wouldn't be the case obviously. But it does give you a good idea just how wide the pattern is on these guys.

Thanks! I love that there's an option to match 4000k halogens. Now I just have to justify the cost. I'd be looking at close to $400 for the Pros with the white lenses. If I can't figure out what is causing my factory fog to "fog" up and get dirty, then I might pull the trigger. Thanks for your help.

Can't recommend the 4000K over the 6000K enough. Much better color and easier on the eyes.

Before I swapped my fog lights to G4’s, I was getting condensation in my factory fog lights. I swapped the rubber gasket on the bulb (put the stock gasket on the aftermarket bulb) and it fixed it.

Thanks man, I may pick up some gaskets from Toyota and try them first. It did start doing this when I switched the bulbs out to Silverstars. How do you like the G4's? I've been looking at those as well as the DD's.

I’ve got the amber G4’s, go with DD. The G4’s do match my DRL’s, and I leave them on all the time as auxiliary DRL’s. If you still have the stock bulbs, take the gaskets from them.
I’ve also done the ultimate headlight upgrade, harness and bulbs, and can barely see the G4 fog lights. The yellow DD Pro’s on the other hand are exceptionally bright, and I just ordered a set of DD sports in clear to run with the low beams.

Do the fog lights come with everything you need to install them?

Did the ultimate headlight upgrade change the color of your headlights assuming you don't change bulbs, or does it stay the same but just become brighter?

The G4’s and DD have a Tacoma specific kit.

I’m guessing it would just be brighter, but it depends on the color temp of your bulbs. I upgraded bulbs at the same time as the harness.

@crashnburn80 can answer that better than me

So I removed the passenger side fog light and cleaned it out best I could. I had the factory bulbs still so I swapped the gasket on it, and also put some silicone around the edge of the lens. If that doesn't fit it then I don't know what else will. It's probably inevitable that I'll get new fogs anyhow, but just trying to justify in my mind that I really "need" them. lol

this was enough justification for me haha. That’s 5/6 lanes of highway out here in LA. And once they went on sale at hotshot off-road I made the plunge. There’s really no comparison when you have the proper lighting and aiming. Every time you use it, that initial money spent woe fades away.

Ok , so I poked my head into this thread because I’m interested in new fogs. After reading, I’m considering G4. My question is , are the lenses amber, or just the bulb? If lenses are clear, then can I use a duel purpose bulb ( white and amber)? I currently have a LED light in my halogen and I know that’s not effective. In fact I can’t see any real results in a snow storm . It’s just, ok , at best.
In my headlights I have the Sylvania Gold white and like those. My current fogs leak sometimes and I understand the change of gasket fix but they are pretty beat anyway.
thoughts @crashnburn80 or @memario1214 ? , or any other knowledgeable individual

Those look great! Dammit. I'm kind of leaning towards the DD Sports in yellow. I might do the headlight upgrade harness first though. I'm pretty pleased with how the Silverstars look in the new OEM housings. I like the color (4000k) and they are much brighter than stock as well as have a clean cutoff. Your picture is very convincing!

The KC G4 lenses are clear, but they use an LED chip, not a bulb.

whichever ones you get, definitely get the selective yellow. That way you can have that 4000k if you did want the clear lens option. I just did the ultimate headlight upgrade. But the bulbs in that pic are the Philips racing +150. My Osram’s haven’t came in yet. So curious to see my light output with the new bulbs. Now I’m eyeing ditch lights and a new light bar to replace the shit one that came from the previous owner of the truck. This thread and all the other @crashnburn80 threads have turned me into a lighting lunatic.

Are you referring to just running the HD harness for increased voltage? Or swapping to the higher power bulbs. Both will result in very marginally whiter output, as in 100-200k which will likely be unnoticeable.

There are no legitimate multi-color LED bulbs for use in a fog assembly. Products that claim multi-color fog support use 2 separate stacked emitters to support typically 3 colors (color 1, color 2, color 1+2). In a fog optic (or any projection optic) the light source must be precisely centered in the optic to focus and function correctly. Because you have multiple stacked emitters to support multi-color, neither of the emitters ends up in the correct location, because they both cannot be in the right spot at the same time. So if you put one in the right spot, the other ends up in a very wrong spot, so the designs usually compromises and puts both in the wrong spot, resulting in poor performance, poor beam pattern and increased glare. Those products are fundamentally flawed and not recommended. I would avoid any brand that tries to sell such a product as a legitimate solution.

The G4s use fixed emitters in a sealed assembly, they are not practically replaceable. The 5000k white G4 is a nice product, the amber G4s are much lower intensity. If looking for a long wavelength light, I would suggest selective yellow instead of amber. You'll end up with far higher output intensity in a more usable light color while still having the benefits of long wavelength light for poor weather performance. For selective yellow, I'd look at Diode Dynamics SS3 options as the highest output intensity fogs available. If considering snow conditions where lens freezing could be an issue, look at the Pro or Max which run much hotter and should adequately prevent icing. Note that the KC G4 Gravity optics are extremely efficient, the G4 will not produce any heat on the lens meaning the light will not de-ice in snow conditions.

But have you started on the house lighting mods yet? :)
