Mine does this when it is cold for a minute or two, then the pressures show up. I have not switched tires yet. Still stock.

The other day I left my display on the tire pressure screen and had the same thing happen with stock tires. I think it's pretty common

Well, after about 20 minutes doing 70mph+ on the freeway today, the tire pressures came back up on my little dash screen and have stayed on since. Guess it just needed a little time to figure it out.

I am loving the ride quality of these Falkens too. For a pretty aggressive A/T, they ride smooth and they’re pretty quiet too. My mpgs seems to be about the same as the stock 265/70 tires actually (after adding in the 3.4% difference between them).

What are the pros and cons of the different ratings SL vs E?

SLs are a much smoother ride because the sidewalls are not as thick. But Es are much tougher because of the thicker sidewalls, they can handle much more load weight, and you can air them down way lower without risking popping a bead like an SL. Es are better for off road use and SLs are better for on road. Most people feel like Es are just too much for a light truck like a Tacoma though (myself included), so a D rated tire is a good compromise if you drive a lot on and off road. If you are just an occasional off roader, then the SL would be a much better option IMO, but just keep the PSI above 20 or so off road and you’ll be fine under most circumstances.

Thanks for that. It looks like SLs it is. Plus they are cheaper.

Really informative post, thank you. Sometimes you have to just hear this stuff over and over again to burn it into memory. I did look, though, and seems they only have the D rating on only one 17” rim size: 37x12.50R17LT

I may be missing something, but here’s where I was looking https://www.falkentire.com/tires/light-truck-suv-cuv-tires/wildpeaka/t3w-tire

I love these tires though (SL, 265/75/16). Installed one year ago and have seriously put them through the wringer. Snowy trails, rocky scree, boulders, washboards.

They just perform with an absolute confidence!

Yeah, it’s strange how tire manufacturers don’t make a lot of C & D rated tires in the 31-35” range. Seems like 95% are Es. I’ve always thought tire companies would make an absolute killing selling lighter load tires to all the Jeep and Toyota guys out there, I wonder why they don’t. Not everyone drives a full-size!

One of the biggest reasons I went with these 265 Falkens is because of the SL rating (which is about the same as a C) - they’re one of the few. I’ve has lots of Es on my 4Runner over the 20 years I’ve had it, and all of them rode stupid rough. In fact I just got a set of 34” Toyo AT3s for my 4runner and the biggest reason I bought them is because they are Cs. I just don’t rock crawl like I used to, but I do take it on a few 500-1000 mi. round trip camping trips each year and even the D rated Goodyear MTRs I had on it rode like total shit on the highway (but they were 35” mud tires, so that’s expected).

BTW, all of the Tacoma models come stock with SL tires (even the Pro AFAIK).

I rock Load Range E's on my Tacoma. They're an excellent tire that has really stood up to lots of varying terrain where I live. I'll always run these!

Funny thing about putting these new tires on. I was expecting of course to have a speedometer that read incorrectly but it is dead on now with GPS and radar signs (going from 245/75 to 275/75). When I bought it it was always showing 3-4 mph faster than what I was traveling at, again according to GPS and radar signs. Looks like my truck always knew it would be getting this size tire, haha. Has anybody else had a similar experience? For once a factory screw up worked in my favor.

I thought the stock tires were pretty lousy in the snow so I threw a set of these on. Went with stock 265/70/16. No disappointment with the size, I think it fills the wheel well fine. They’re much better in the snow. No balancing issues. Fine on the highway. A tiny bit noisier than stock but not at all bothersome.
