Sounds like the wise prudent way to go! The heated seats are a must have for me at this point in my life, but could be done after market as well. Thanks for the info!

I’m looking into making a deal on this OR. The dealer hasn’t wanted to give me their best price. They are asking me what figure I have in mind. What’s a good number to throw at them?

I offered $32800 + destination and TTL for a TRD Sport 4x4 DCSB M/T with tonneau cover and all-weather mats. Much to my surprise, they accepted! They then found one without the tonneau cover but with the all-weather mats and a couple other accessories which would have been $400 below invoice with the incentive. I made a deposit, but it got snapped up before they could obtain it! They ordered a similar one (bare bones TRD Sport). I think they're giving it a solid effort, given the low supply in general and of M/T models in particular, which seem to be under-allocated.

Maybe it was my timing. No 2020's in late August that were even close (the MT and blue were it) to what I wanted and I refused to even look at anything used. We went forward and I didn't even consider they wouldn't negotiate.

    Just got a 2021 OR 4x4 AT
    LED front lights, locking tailgate.
    35,335 before TTL, $39,703 MSRP
Did trade a 2018 F150 and got black book at 29,000, netted about 11,000 on the trade and saved about 2k in taxes so i got 31,000 in total value on a truck i paid 35k for before TTL two years ago.

Feel pretty good about the deal and love the truck.

Last week I picked up a 2021 SR 4x4, V6, Auto for $35,140 out the door. Our Dealer sells at MSRP plus tax, license and doc fees, no haggling. The out the door prices are on the website. They have no Tacoma’s in stock and have had any in stock for quite a while. They sell before they even reach the island. I kept checking the website and when I saw this one shown as Incoming, I called my salesperson to reserve the truck back in October. I went with the SR because its the cheapest and I like simple, plus I’m gonna add stuff on to it so.......

Toyota.com inventory. Is there anyway to figure out what dealer has what is shown in the results short of calling, emailing or doing an inventry search on every dealer in the area? Riverside, Orange and LA county all seem to share the exact same database. There are 20-30 Toyota dealers in those counties. Maybe more.

If the last six of the Vin are not numbers then the truck is not built yet. So I guess it could be either in transit or at the dealer if the last six are numbers.

I believe the best way to start negotiations is to start with something related to invoice pricing, such as $500 below invoice. Then you don’t have to throw out a specific number and using invoice as a base, you know the deal will be pretty good. Everyone knows that a dealer still has profit built into invoice by way of holdbacks and manufacturer to dealer incentives. Of course, they have to show you the invoice.

this is the invoice I am pulling up through the Costco program. Looks like I’d offer the $35k?

Yes, or as in my case I just took delivery of my 2021 TRD OR 6MT on Friday, 12/11 under the Costco program which was $200 below invoice. I was happy with that. You are free to ask them exactly what the Costco pricing structure is and they will tell you. However, it doesn’t seem as if you are using the Costco program as they are obliged to tell you rather than playing games, so offer $34K. In my case, I did go through Costco and when I ordered in September with an anticipated November delivery, the deal was $250 over invoice. When my vehicle came in, it was December and my salesman told me that the Costco deal in December was $200 below invoice and voluntarily took $450 off without my asking or having been aware of the price change.

I never done this costco thing, you guys go to the website and put in the car that you want to buy and dealers reach out to you? I am looking to get a 4runner or highlander for my wife soon... I want to see if its even worth my time. I'll be honest, I dont want 15 dealers around here south jersey blowing up my phone either.

Actually it’s nothing like that. You sign up on the Costco website and they provide you with a very few dealers in the area that are willing to participate in the program. In Phoenix, AZ there were only 2. When you sign up, state that you want email contact only. Then make an appointment to talk to the authorized Costco rep at the dealership, which 9 times out of 10 is in the Fleet department so you do not have to deal with starving, aggressive rank and file sales people. You are then told what the Costco deal is, which revolves around invoice price. I have bought vehicles like this for years and have nothing negative to say about it. If you complete a purchase through the program, you usually get a bonus, which in my case is a coupon for 50% off accessories up to a $200 discount ($400 worth).

Back in October I signed up and was notified by one dealer in my area in Southern CA. Now when I type in the the Tacoma TRD I want to purchase it says "no dealerships in your zip code meet this criteria." I will try to enter a zip code out of my area and see if a dealership contacts me. It seems in So. Cal not many dealerships want to even offer Costco pricing if they don't have to in order to sell Tacoma's, which it seems right now, they don't have to.

The coupon is good at the dealership where you purchased your vehicle.
