adds power, better shift points...? There are lots of posts on here about it...some by ovtune themselves with charts I believe

I'm waiting for three tanks of premium to run through then I'll do a base dyno and post...I've been naughty...been running 83.

Then I'll do another premium tank and a post-ovtune dyno and post....after that I'll do a dyno after intake/catback, then after headers...want to see how much each series of mods adds.

But I need to get the base first...I'm super curious how much the ovtune alone helps on all stock on MY truck. Legit want to dyno after each set of mods and post up. Found a place that does dyno only for about $100

Any solid facts to back this up I was under the impression it was undetected by the Toyota techstream, you don't even have it? Why bother commenting?

    this and that...
the advantage is getting rid of that sudden vvti changeover at 3.5k and giving you a broad linear powerband all the way up till redline.

I must agree with NotSo on the warranty void rumor - stealerships will not detect that the ECU map has been modified if OVT maps are loaded/used.

So far as the OVT tunes in general, I bought in after my initial disappointment in the A/T shifting of my ‘17 TRD Sport 4x4 Taco, which I bought new, that July. The near-stock truck is still less than perfect, since IMO the OVT benefits the engine performance far more than the trans. At least that is my honest sumation.

After paying the $600, I used the 93 octane “performance tune” revs (from 1.04, 1.05, - and finally the 2.0 “final tune”, which is now loaded).

Its been a long road: waiting for next releases, testing them out, and trying to remain diplomatic when reporting my assessments.
Tuning is best done individually, rather than attempting to offer a single tune apply to multiple trucks. You may still get improvement over the masses, but max potential is achieved by optimizing parameters individually for each truck, as applied to its specific group of components.
Personally, I find the OVT product to have aided the engine performance in allowing it to develop higher power and torque outputs, (better mileage naturally accompanies that increase in efficiency) but not completely successful in straightening out the mess that Toyota created in their shift mapping of the 6 speed auto transmission. The shifting remains far from “optimal”. I ‘ve ordered an SSP module from DMZ myself, to see if that will help bring things together any better or not- we shall see.
    Fingers crossed!

The Tune gives you options to fix transmission shift issues, plus you can make tunes for your driving needs. I would tune before I regear on stock trucks because IMO it would fix most issues.

I'm actually pretty sure if you wrote a benign program and imported a bunch of process injection/remote thread execution API's it would flag. Or just add in references to Kiwi and see it pop as mimikatz. It's not hard to flag as malware. If the intent was to be malicious it's not hard to bypass AV. I think it's probably more telling that they have no clue how to be malicious based on the fact that it's been getting flagged this entire time. You just submit to a sandbox and if it flags he could just byte swap, dynamically resolve imports, perform memory injection, etc. until it no longer flags.

Also, I'm guessing if you took a simple binary and packed it with UPX it would flag on it being suspicious because it is packed just like how VF Tuner is packed with Obsidium. The easiest way to verify this is to let Obsidium unpack VF Tuner and then dump to memory. I'm guessing you already know this though?

Access to source code is not a definitive method to ensure that the binary hasn't been tampered with you have to address the supply chain as well. Ask Solar Winds how thats going for them. Providing us with source code isn't that helpful. You'd have to look at the assembly for ground truth.

A lot of the points you make are Twitter expert level and not actual expert level.

Th e results of the VF tune are going to depend on what rev of ECM you have on your truck. I have a 2019 OR (auto) that had the B30 rev of ECM, I installed the VF 2.0 prem with stock tires and gearing, the tune made the shifting a bit better and the throttle response a bit better. I have was waiting for the performance version of the tune before released Toyota released the 33B rev of the ECM and I loaded it, the B33 made a huge difference, much better shifting and better throttle response. Hopefully when VF releases the B33 it will be improved even more otherwise I wasted $700+

So I understand the concept of tuning and why its great, however when navigating OVTunes site I was beyond confused. I see you can buy the tune pack itself with 4 files I believe, but you also need to spend 375 to get the cable to actually flash the file onto the vehicle. So cheapest way into it would be $600+ correct? I figured you would be able to simply by a cable online for $20 bucks or whatever it is, then just buy the 4 file tune pack rather than having to buy the whole kit that also includes the custom tune software. If I am wrong please correct me.

You don't just buy a cable, you buy the tuning software. You can use just that to tune the truck yourself, or you can buy the tune packs.

Im pretty sure you need a tune from OV in order to edit it in the Vf tuning software.

They come with "Base" tunes for you to edit, the tune packs are extra and additional, but you do not need them to start from scratch.

Do you have Vf tuner? I do and i have a good idea how it works.

There are base and premium tunes which are in a tune pack. Or you can buy single tunes from TW members. I dont think you know what you are talking about sir.
