Spoken like someone who stores their regular set fully inflated and in close proximity to where you park.

Source: I do this too lol, actually considering doing the "pipe bomb" mod on the TPMS sensors.

Good point about rot. On my sons winter 4x4 Blazer it had the factory spare and typical non operational chevy hanger. After fighting the spare off there I disposed of that 20 year old tire and replaced it with newer. It's not with him but at least I have spare in garage I can bail him out.

I rotate the 5th tire in the TPM light does not come on my truck was shocked to find this out. I have a rubber valve stem on what was going to be the spare and i was going to pick up a single TPM but after my first rotation learning that the light did not come on and it still read all 4 TPM's even running the rubber stem spare i have just continued to do a 5 tire rotate. 2016 sport.

Huh. That, I can't explain. Short of deleting the dashboard light, the only way I've been able to silence it with my winter set on is by parking closest to the garage.

If you do five tire, I'm not saying you're going to see the light. It's very likely that it'll never come on.
I'm saying, your indication of which tire is where on the screen isn't always guaranteed to be accurate. For example if your fourth TPMS is on your spare under the bed, it may register as the rear right or rear left. You just don't know and it's easy to lose track.

Kind of been mentioned already, no worries. I think one of our Tacomas came factory with that amount of difference.

Amazon, I purchased 5 TPMS sensors for less than $60.00 just research get the correct frequency. I don't recall but factory wanted 2x that for one!

Yes that is the down side to it, i have been running it this way for about a 1 1/2 years no light ever came on. I like to think i have an idea as what is accurate when the 4th TPM is on the swing arm but its a guessing game i suppose. Just glad that light doesnt come on!

    Theoretically:

If you never burn your spare, that’s 20% of ‘bought’ rubber that goes un-used, per ‘set’.

The factory tires were ‘free’, but you didn’t use your spare. I did, and went 20% further. Then I bought 5 and again, went 20% further than you. By the time I buy 4 sets (plus the free OEM), I’ve gone 100% further than you...

“Yeah, but you bought 5 tires at a time.”

Right, but I saved a whole trip to the shop for mount and balance, only bought 3 more tires than you (not 4) and you’ve got an un-used, likely mismatched, crusty 200K mile tire and rotten steel rim that you have to replace (I’m only down by 2 tires now) and....

after running 5 tire rotation on 5 Toyota trucks, over 200K mi each, I’ve never had a tire get weird (they’re moving around too much)... you’re gonna have one or two round over or cup in a million miles. Now, we’re pretty even on the tire count, but I’ve gone twice as far.........

    theoretically.

    oh yeah, and...

I sold 5 dorky spare rims on each truck and traded the old trucks in with no spare... no dealer ever looked. This has bought the ‘matching’ wheel each time.

Not a 5 tire rotation tip, but on the topic of TPMS and winter tires: you can get sensors that will clone your original IDs so you don't have to reprogram the car twice a year.

I would do 5 tire but the spare is a steel wheel. Unless all 5 wheels are the same it is out of the question.

Agree 100% and I was told by someone on here that the 18" rims on my Limited will not fit the spare hanger system. Not certain why, but I'm not gonna; pay for one rim when I gotta' cool steelie.

That happened to me, damaged a rear tire on the trail, swapped the 32" tire with the 31" spare, drove home. No ABS/VSC lights. 4WD worked as normal. I then did two more wheeling trips and a club meet in a different city all on the mismatched spare, around 1800 km, until I found a couple of used 32" tires.

I do 5 because I have a full size on my swingout and it’s actually easier than doing 4. No sense in letting good rubber go to waste.

Putting #5 in the lineup also makes me check it and clean it.

Your math isn't quite right. Since 1 of 4 tires is out every rotation you actually get 25% more out of each tire, not 20%. That means you buy 4 and get the 5th free, assuming they all last. But you have to use the 5th one for the math to work out. So it's actually the same as just buying 4 tires and keeping the 5th as a spare. Except you save a trip every 4th set of tires, I suppose

Here's a table that might explain it better

%$#@& bells & whistles! (I like them - but deep down, I hate them all!)

I had not factored in the TPMS... My old cars just gave a warning light if one was low. It was up to you to figure out which one(s) was low / flat.

This fancy Taco tells you how full they are at each corner... (snazzy, I thought!) What about the spare??? and the rotation issue, I'd not thought of...

Bugger it all! I still carry an analog gauge anyway - (And it bothers me to no end that the readings are off by several pounds!). Back in the day, we all could manage to survive by kicking the tire and using an analog gauge...

I just bought 5 tires to replace the OEM ones...

What part number might that be for the '21 PRO Wheel? (Search on multiple dealers sites will not produce!)
