i'd love to have one of those shallow Polk 15s but i have to take measurements again...

it looks like i won't be able to get the response i'm used to with a ported enclosure due to the air space restrictions back there so if i'm going to go with a sealed i need something big.

the last ported box i built needed a lot of port and about 2.5' to be flat. needless to say it wasn't for a truck.

It will be very close, but should fit. You may have to shave a little off the inside of the box behind the sub, but not much.

EDIT: It will also depend on the magnet's diameter.
The shape of a box that will fit behind the seats in a double cab is not conducive to a large magnet at that mounting depth...

That is correct buddy :) and another issue in this case is the diameter of the sub since the enclosure is angled (the larger the sub the smaller the mounting depth available). Also, you have to build a channel into the back of the enclosure in order to fit around the brace on the rear wall so a 15 at that depth will not fit without some serious surgery.

Edit: the pic below is a DC enclosure for a 13" JL 13TW5 at 2.5" deep with a 12.5" cutout and the channel seen through the sub opening just barely clears that subs basket.

    thanks guys.

Marv, that's the sub you run, right? if so, what made you choose it vs. some of the less expensive shallow mount subs? and also, how's it sound!

i was considering this sub but was sold on the stereo integrity 12" shallow driver...however, of course, none are to be had right now : (

PS: i gotta say, i've never heard of anyone that has as solid a rep as you. usually there is something bad about anyone offering a service but for you it is all positive. great job.

    You're welcome. :)
I read all the reviews on the 13TW5 describing them as sounding as good as a JL 12w6v2 which is one of my sub favorites so I just bought one to try it out. I wasn't too impressed at first but after breaking it in for a while it just kept sounding better and better. :) IMO it is an excellent sounding sub and just gets overall better when you factor in the 2.5" mounting depth, an optimum enclosure much smaller than most 12's and a larger cone than any of the other shallows I had heard. I know there are JL "haters" out there that bash these subs but about the only thing I think I could possibly agree about is the cost.

I have read good things on the SI but I haven't been able to get a hold of one to compare and as soon as I can I may try the new Alpine type r shallow to see how it sounds (at nearly the retail cost of a 13TW5 I hope it sounds good!). BTW, the shallow Pioneer is one of my favorite "value" subs as IMO it sounds better than the price may lead you to believe in comparison to others in it's class.

P.S. to your P.S.: Thanks for the vote of confidence! :) I will be the first to admit I am not perfect however one thing I guarantee is that when I goof up I do everything I can to make it right! :)

    thanks for the response.

i actually had great luck with the type r 12 i've used for the past 3 years. i'm actually trying to sell it in the box i built since i obviously can't use either in my new truck - http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/forum/f229/custom-built-sub-enclosure-mazdaspeed-3-alpine-type-r-12-subwoofer-66464/

so, that said, i am too interested in their flat woofer but the price is a bit shocking considering i paid less than half of that for my "regular" type r 12", new.

i do like that it is compatible with a vented setup, though. i have to run the ts through winisd to see exactly what kind of volume would offer the flattest response. i REALLY would like a vented one woofer enclosure in this truck, and one built with no compromises in terms of response.

I know there is a lot of technology involved in these shallow subs however I think some of the higher cost is based on the "convenience" of a small package kind of like when laptops first came out.

I am building a Double Cab vented enclosure with a side firing port for an IDQ10v3 and have figured a way around some obstacles so if you need any help with your enclosure construction design just let me know.

thanks for the offer. depending on your current situation, i'd probably rather buy a box from you vs. making my own, after what i've seen come out of your shop. my ancient table saw gave up permanently a while back and i've yet to get another.

i do need to ask - what do you think is the max internal volume that can be had for a vented one 12" driver double cab box, one that keeps all of the OE hooks, etc on the rear wall?

I'm still building on a part time basis right now but just let me know if you decide and I'll work it in.

Without modification to the seat back/seat mounting location the max net volume is about 1.6ft^3 when you remove the hooks so you'd be a bit less than that if you want to keep them since the channel needs to be built deeper. Another issues with the deeper channel is you become even more limited in sub choice when you go to a 12" sub.
