    Hi Everyone,

I want to get some people out for a day of snow wheeling in Verdi. We have had over 2 feet of snow fall in the last week or so and its great out here. There is a fire road that goes from Dog Valley in Verdi to Boca and then a trail that leads up to Boca Springs. Right now because of the snow and the number of people that have been out there the trails are semi difficult to moderate.

All thought right now due to conditions making the entire route will be nothing short of a miracle lol, its possible. If conditions permit then we can do the whole trail in 2 hours. However there are several places this trail passes by that have great spots to hit some back country powder. Also there are several other trails that stem off from the peak of Dog Valley that are extremely difficult. The trail is mostly clear with almost no areas that require major trail armor. The main difficulty here is snow, ice, and traction.

At the end of the dog valley boca trail is Boca springs. A nice little camp ground with restrooms, picnic tables, and a spring. However making it all the way is going to be hard. Everything out there is untouched by vehicles. From there another network of trails exist but these are EXTREMELY difficult. I was just planning on eating lunch there.

If things go perfect we can also fit in some riding, snowshoeing, or even shooting as there is a range out there. Not sure how the weather will permit but we shall see.

I have never organized one of these on here before so if any one wants to chip in or help please feel free.

    * A few members may stay the weekend and get in some snowboarding / skiing at northstar FYI

    * I have oba so we can air up people from my truck as well and hopefully others can provide other support.

So far the list is .

Time: Dec 18 Meet at Terribles @ 10AM (ish)

** I have changed the meeting point because the road can get confusing. Instead we are going to be meeting at the Terribles Gold Ranch Casino / Chevron / Jack in the Box off of highway 80 . Here is the link. Its really easy to get to just get off 80, go left, take your first right. LOL We can gas up, grab anything needed and even hit the lotto lol!

Also everyone who is coming does need to bring the usual kit for recovery just in case. I am not kidding when I say the last time I was up there we had over 30 trucks and suv's stuck.....

I plan on bringing my huskies and snow shoes just in case. LOL

Dog Valley is easily accessed from the North side of Reno off Hwy 395 at the Bordertown exit or on the South side off of Hwy 80 by taking the Verdi exit.

    To access at Bordertown:

    From 395 take Exit 83.
Turn south off of Exit 83 and proceed to the stop sign.
Turn right (nw) at the stop sign and proceed down the paved street, north of the Bordertown parking lot, to the stop sign.

After stopping, follow the paved road. The road makes a sharp left turn to the south-east as you cross over the railroad tracks at approximately .2 of a mile.

Continue following the paved road south; at approximately .4 of a mile it turns to gravel then starts to curve to the south again paralleling the railroad tracks.

As you come around the curve you should a Forest sign where the road forks. Stay to the right and follow the road to the Forest boundary, approximately two miles (N39°37'27" W120°00'37").
    To access at Verdi:

Exit at Verdi; follow the road for about five miles to Bridge Street.

Turn right on Bridge Street and proceed up the hill. Cross the two narrow bridges that run over the river. As you pass over the second bridge you will see Dog Valley road on your right.

Turn right and again proceed up the hill. About a mile up the road you will see the Forest Service signs indicating you are entering the forest. Once you enter the forest the road remains paved for a few hundred yards then turns to gravel.
Note: Dog Valley can also be accessed via the Tahoe Forest from Boca Reservoir using Henness Pass.

    Opportunity

Approximately 30 miles of OHV roads ranging from easy to difficult.

    History

Dog Valley, received its name from packs of dogs that used to run wild there. It is a beautiful oasis in the desert. Trees, meadows and steams make up Dog Valley's landscape creating a cool and refreshing atmosphere.

    Camping

Dog Valley has two campgrounds: one hosted and one non-hosted.

Lookout Campground is a hosted campground.

I would say no, but its up to you. The snow gets pretty crazy sometimes its deep, some times its like sugar, sometimes it just not that bad. Not really sure how it will go til we get there.
