Very interesting story in Bloomberg on the Tacoma:

    A few key highlights:

    They move fast:

"With just a 10-day supply of the truck -- in an industry where 60 days is considered ideal -- most are already sold before they’re unloaded from the car hauler."

    Toyota sales are killing it:

"The Tacoma is to midsize pickups what the Ford F-Series is to full-size trucks: a dominant player that has remained the best-seller of its kind for the last 14 years. Sales, which rose 8% last month, have more than doubled this decade, even as General Motors Co. fielded the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, Ford Motor Co. revived the Ranger model and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV rolled out the Jeep Gladiator."

Here's another interesting number. Median age of new Tacoma's owner is 54 years old. And more women than men buy the Tacoma new.

Your assumption is not wrong, been around since my early 2011, ya it's a very different forum and not for the better, unfortunately.

The women part is deceiving as it goes by percentile of pickup truck buyers, 15% men and 16% women. But Men far outnumber Women in pickup truck buyers so women do not actually purchase more Tacoma's than men.

That article has an interesting part where is says 50 percent of all Tacoma sales are Off Road models, wonder what the breakdown of all the other models are to total the other 50 percent.

The owner dynamic for sure. Have noticed the 3rd gen has brought a lot of people that have never owned a truck before or necessarily need one, which great, more people realizing how great these trucks are, but also brings a different type of discussion better or worse, and mentality/personality of owners. Way more complaining and bickering over what when you think about it at least in my opinion is silly, like scratching interior pieces, etc. Also notice the builds are more intense than before, before most members did little things over time and most were functional, rare to see someone drop $40k on a truck and then $10k on a lift right off the bat, seems more commonplace now. There were more threads on maintenance as well and general truck talk, now the threads are consumed with "whats the biggest size tire I can fit and the best lift on my brand new truck that I will park at my apartment and drive to Starbucks everyday" type threads.

Sorry, I am not sure what you mean by this. Are you saying my post is contributing to the dumpster fire? Or the fact that there are so many new Tacoma owners they have flooded the forum and changed the dynamic of the conversation here ? Not arguing. Just trying to understand what you meant ...

Sorry, I missed that post. We can combine to reduce the amount of threads. Can you help me do that?

    Still ... good article ...

Dynamic of this forum, not you or your post!
Years spent on different car/motorcycle forums; this one.. is the most ridiculous I think I’ve ever been a member of. I think it speaks to just how popular this specific truck is.. and how varied of a demographic it appeals to. To put it nicely.

It is kind of amazing how so many Tacoma owners engage in overland mimicry. Currently this involves:
    1. Lift, spacers and 285-sized tires.
    2. Steel bumpers and winch.
    3. Pro grille.
    4. Raptor lights.
    The advanced poseurs add:
    5. Roof rack.
    6. Bed rack.
    7. Rooftop tent.
    8. Rotopax.
    9. Ginsu shovel and Swedish axe.
All this hanging out for maximum exposure to dirt, rain, thieves....
Of course this is not limited to Taco owners. Jeep owners do it. And how about the "bro" trucks with 6 inch lifts, 22 inch rims and low profile tires.

I appreciate the thoughtful response. I'm always curious about forum dynamics especially coming from Nissan, Infiniti, and Genesis forums in the past. I also completely agree with all of the points you made.

truck glamping. I would rather throw a rolled up tent in the bed and go out where no one is.
