Has anyone had a problem with paint defects on this year/color? I've read a few older post about it, but I didn't know if it was actually a wide spread problem.

Toyota white has always had problems. I don't see why it would change now.

2020 since mid Aug ... Shop kept, zero probs. It was just a bit more 'orange-peely' in a few spots that I would have cared for, but not enough to be overly concerned about it. I bought a base model Plain-Jane, so I knew going in, a $30K rig paint job was not gonna be as quality as a $50K deluxe rig. But so far, no issues.

When I was detailing cars at a large dealership, my friend and former supervisor (who also owns a Barcelona Red 2010 DCSB TRD OR) said that white Toyotas have a bigger issue with paint quality than Toyotas of other colors; This was not exclusive to the Tacoma...

My white 96' had zero problems however my 07' does. The fact that Toyota has not fixed the paint issues after all this time is a problem

It's been a problem even on 2nd gens, I've seen 16, 17, 18 and 19 issues, little early to assess if 20 and 21 will also have issues.

I have 2016, and to my knowledge the paint is the same, but I haven't had any problems. My truck is not garage kept and we see all kinds of different weather conditions here in Missouri.

This one is almost 6 years old if that makes you feel better. Garage kept at night....but spends 12 hours a day outside at work. Yes, I'm aware its not a 3rd gen

Agree. I like white vehicles and had a white '16 4Runner but after learning about the forever on-going problems Toyota has with their white paint, I ruled it out for other purchases including my '20 Tacoma.

Just got mine yesterday...they gave me a great deal on the white since I wanted cement originally but didn’t know the paint had issues. Hoping mine stays as is but it sounds like it’s too soon to tell on the 2020/2021 trucks...

dang I wish I’d waited and gotten the cement now!

I have multiple panels with debris under the paint, still trying to get Toyota to take it seriously. Had I known white was single stage then I would have chosen a different color. Other than the debris I have no issues but the truck is garage kept and often waxed with very low miles.

I believe there are other colors like Voodoo Blue, Quicksand and Army Green that are also single stage but I'm not certain. Historically I think there has been more issue with white although to my mind it makes no sense why issues would be color specific.

Researching online, it looks like starting in September of 2019 Toyota started publicly rolling out super-white paint recalls.

    https://tiremeetsroad.com/2019/09/2...izzard-pearl-super-white-paint-jobs-for-free/

I would guess that they had to have internally recognized the issue much earlier, probably at least a year or two. So if they have known they were going to end up doing paint recalls since say the 2017 - 2018 time frame, I would say it is reasonable to think that the 2020 - 2021 super-white vehicles should have updated paint. In the end who knows though.

Most don't run into issues, but that color has the most issues in general, from my understanding. This is largely due to it being single stage paint and the way it is made. As was stated before, it isn't exclusive to the Tacoma. Camry's and other models have also had this issue.
