That's right, from my experience, dealers rotate into and out of the Costco program depending on how anxious they are to move product. Sometimes certain vehicles will be excluded if they are in high demand, but I find that mostly the dealership opts out completely.

Costco Auto Program lists the 2021 TRD Sport 2WD Double Cab Long Bed at Base MSRP of $34,815, invoice 32,252. After adding destination of $1,175 that puts it at $33,427. I haven't had a dealership in So. Cal get even remotely close to this price over the last 2 months.

The dealership has to agree to participate in the program and the pricing structure is negotiated between the dealership and Costco. The dealer must be a participant of the Costco Auto Program, so it does no good to compare prices with just any Toyota dealer. Good luck.

So you are saying that the dealership that is listed as currently participating in the program has to get close to the invoice pricing?

All markets have different dynamics, so it is up to the dealership and Costco to work out what the pricing structure is to be in any particular market. From my experience you will get a good price through the program, and if the dealer is a participant, they cannot monkey with it -- although a trade-in is going to muddy the waters. How do you know the dealer did not short you on trade-in value? The Costco program does not allow for that. My advice is to make an appointment and go to see the Costco rep at the dealership and ask him what the Costco pricing structure is WITH NO TRADE-IN. He has to tell you, $250 below invoice, $500 above invoice, etc. As I stated earlier, when I put my deposit down, the price was $250 over invoice, but when it came in 13 weeks later, the price was $200 under invoice. YMMV.

Results vary. I am in San Diego. I tried the Costco program in the late Spring and the dealer I was assigned to didn't return phone calls or emails. I rescinded the Costco coupon thru the Costco website (I don't know that I had to do that but I did).

I am trying again now starting 2 weeks ago and I was assigned a different dealer. I asked directly if they would honor the Costco pricing and instead of saying "Yes", they said "Lets find you a vehicle first then we can go over the Costco pricing discount".

They have not been able to find the vehicle I want, says no one will trade inventory and teh two trucks they have coming in that meet my specs are already sold. So they are still looking. I asked about a factory order stating I was in no rush. For some reason they are dancing around doing a factory order and just replied "We will keep looking".

One reason they may be dancing around doing a factory order, is that from what I understand, the only way the dealer gets trucks is by allocation. If the model you are looking for is coming through with the right drive train and cab configuration, they can intercept it and change the color and add certain options -- to a point. I wanted a premium package, and they would not have been able to add that. Mine was a TRD OR 6MT with the premium package that was already coming through and they changed the color, added some options, etc. Some dealers may not be willing to give a Costco price on an allocated vehicle in the pipeline for whatever reason. All speculation by me of course and I do not have definitive knowledge of the process. If your dealer finds you a vehicle, he is obligated to tell you the pricing structure and really, he should do it in advance, because it is generally computed from a parameter that is certain for every vehicle, such as invoice price.

I am going to use my credit union to finance half the cost of the Tacoma. Yes. They will keep the title and then mail it to you once you have paid off the vehicle

Zero percent APR is going to be near impossible to find through a credit union.

2% is very good. I have really good credit and they offered me 2.74%. Which is still decent IMHO

For anyone interested; Vibrant credit union is currently doing 1.9% for 60 months (might actually be 72 months, but I didn’t ask about that).

I was long story though, and not anymore. Ordered one and had a buyer for mine, then he fucked me and I had to cancel it all even after the new buyer assured me this was a done deal. Thought about outing him on the forum, but it's not worth it at all.

Not claiming expertise on this, but the starting point (discount off list) seems good at 8.8%, which is close to invoice. Does the list price closely match what you get when you "build your own" online? Does their base price include the destination charge?

The bottom half is a bit unclear.
    • First is a line item "taxable fees (estimated)." Taxable fees are dealer-imposed fees (not DMV fees) and do not need estimation. I don't see why any fees need to be estimated.
    • The "predelivery service charge" appears to be the Florida version of a document preparation fee. Every state has a version of this, and some states set a maximum that the dealers then charge, claiming it's "state law." There appears to be no cap on that fee in Florida, so the doc/prep fees are among the highest in the U.S. You might try to negotiate this down, or call dealers in a neighboring state.
    • The manufacturer's destination charge ($1095 last I checked) is normally passed 1:1 to the customer but is missing here. It may have been included in the price. Confirm this is the case.
    • Only $2.00 in non-taxable (government) fees are shown. This seems oddly low since the registration would normally be at least $35.
Try the Build Your Own site and see if you can match their starting MSRP and determine whether they included destination. If so, subtract it and see where it sits relative to invoice with options. 8-9% off seems solid to me.

I made a spreadsheet where I computed total acquisition cost, including taxes, fees, and financing, to avoid confusion over different ways an offer can be presented. I used invoice prices from this thread, although the prices have gone up a bit over the last couple years.

Kevin Hunter has put out some excellent material on Youtube that brings more clarity to this process/game, especially the fees.

I wish we can buy cars from the manufacturer.... the dealer game is just straight-up pain in the ass, whoever thought to buy cars thru a dealer and made it into a law should get a punch in the face!!

The dealership I was assigned through the Costco program just emailed me stating that due to low inventory and high demand that they had to take Tacoma’s off the Costco pricing. Bs. Looks like I’ll just wait until spring.

Any input on if you think this is a good deal, or if I could do better?

    DFW Area (Dallas forth worth)

As a note, this would be for a color that is not my first choice. Not a horrible color, but not my first choice. Probably about middle of the road as far as choice goes.

This was end of November in Maryland - 6% tax. MBM SR. OTD was about $33.5 - was near impossible to find an AC around here in anything but White or Black. Wanted MGM, settled for MBM - now glad I did.

Depends on the value of your trade-in vehicle. The further you are away from the kbb private party value on your trade, the less that discount becomes. You should be shooting for private party value for your trade-in vehicle. Also trade in tax Credit depending upon your state could be taken into consideration.

30K is right on par with where the trade in value is. The tax credit is taken into account from what I can tell. I am getting a tax credit for the overlapping amount. That’s why tax is only showing as $750.47. Tax rate is 6.25% if that helps any
