Windshield Condensation

Lately I've noticed alot of moisture forming on the inside of the windshield when the truck sits in the driveway overnight... anyone know a way to avoid it from happening like a certain climate control setting?

 

It doesn't prevent it from forming , but I go full fan , full heat , in the defrost setting with Max AC on when starting , seems to clear it the quickest .

 

can ya set it to arizona? when i lived in the midwest, the winters could make this a real pain in the ass. i played with coatings inside and out, windows up, windows cracked, blah blah blah. the only way i got it to stay dry is when i parked inside and that didnt happen often. i just pre-heated the car before i went to work. the defrogger was my pal.

When we had the snow/freezing temps here in Seattle. I had frost forming on the INSIDE of the windshield. LOL

First for me in all my vehicles.

 

Same here...I don't remember this happening to this extent in my other vehical's either. I thought maybe having the climate control set to the vents at the bottom of the windshield was the culprit and left the knob adjusted to the vents on the floor...didn't seem to make a difference. WTF?

Well the moisture has to get in the car first before it can condense on the windows. This CAN be an indication of a heater core leaking however I doubt that is your problem. Water soaked into your carpet floor mats (from wet shoes) can also have this effect.

However in the end there is moisture in the air as well and you cant really help that while the truck is parked. My advice is to clean your windows (inside) often. I find with windows that are good and clean it defrosts much faster and seems to fog up much less.

 

In all these years, I've never found a solution. If there's moisture in the air, you end up running the defroster or floor defrost settings which both run the AC compressor. That alone will create condensation that has to drain out of the cab. And then there's moisture in there because it doesn't all drain out. This forces you to run the defrost setting in the morning. Vicious cycle! You can double check that your drain hose isn't plugged (and isn't going uphill as many have found before traveling out thru the firewall). And you can try turning the defrost off and running the fan for awhile before parking for the night. But doing that usually fogs them up before you even park (even with the windows cracked). So only solution I've ever found is to continue to use the defrost or floor/defrost setting until the air is dry enough to switch it to floor and not run the compressor.

 

It may be due to the fact that these newer vehicles

are sealed better and that doesnt allow air movement

like vehicles of the past. The truck holds the moisture.

my new house does the same thing

every morning im wiping down wet windows.

when i asked about what i could do about it

he stated leave the windows open alittle.

 

these guys all bring up good points. also, normally humidity goes up in the winter so yer pretty much screwed as soon as ya crack a door open much past november

 

Um I think you have that backwards...typically it is less humid in the winter due to the cold dry air.

 

try a winter or 7 in iowa. not typical? perhaps i was wrong there

 

I would make sure I didn't have wet carpet somewhere, they can hold a lot of moisture if they get wet, especially if underneath a plastic floor mat.

 

Off topic , but you should not have that much moisture inside a new house unless there is inadequate air exchange , or you don't run your kitchen range hood and bath fans for long enough .

 

That's happening because moisture is building up in the cab. I'd suspect you have the recirculate button turned on, normally?

Don't do that if you do.

 

Sorry off topic again, or the humidifier is set too high. To the OP I have not had this problem yet, but my wifes Equinox gets pretty bad in the winter. I have checked for leaks everywhere, and think its the mats. She doesn't get the snow off her feet or anything getting in and it just sits on the mats. Being cold it just stays there and takes a long time to dry.

 

Just turn on the blower fan and wait a second....happens all the time no big deal...also I run my a/c all the time. Whats all the fuss!!

 

Great suggestions! I usually have some standing water on the WeatherTech floor mats so that could what's causing it. I'll check out a few of your other ideas and report back...Thanks!!

 

My son had that happening a lot. I told him to get rid of the soaking wet floor mats and ALWAYS use outside air when driving to keep things dry inside.

Problem solved.
