2.7 to 3.4 swap questions

5100’s all around and OME rear springs and a shitty pioneer CD player.
My 2002 2.7 blew a head gasket and likely has a bad head (severe knocking) I’ve looked at a lot of threads about this swap but I have a couple questions.

The potential donor truck is a 99 Tacoma with manual tranny but I want to keep my automatic transmission. Is the bell housing from the manual able to be mounted on my auto trans to make the swap? Is the torque converter from the 2.7 able to be used as well?

With respect to the wiring harness, what is involved in swapping them? Are we talking splicing wires or plug n play or a combination? I’m planning on using the gauge cluster from the donor as well.

Looking forward to the responses. Thanks for your help!

Do you have the Factory Service Manual (FSM) with wiring diagram? Do you know how to read it? If not, you're in for quite a large project…

What year is the 3.4L from? Is it from a Tacoma, Tundra, T100 or 4runner? This may matter depending on EGR and a bunch of other small things that will crop up.

I don’t have the manual. Links I found were dead. Do you have a source?

A standard level TIS subscription will likely be best so that you can get the specific 1999 and 2002 FSMs.

    2 Day $20
    Monthly $90
    Yearly $480

I don't think the amount of labor involved is worth it for a marginal power increase.

are you buying the entire donor truck? I'd drop your cab and body on to the donor frame and use its entire wiring harness.

Don't the frames have different engine mounts as well?

Yes. Mounts from the donor will be cut out and welded in.

Donor has a bad frame. I’m wouldn’t consider this for the purpose of increasing power. Need a new power plant. This donor with 150k is a fraction of the price of a jdm motor. Plus my AC doesn’t work so I’m going to replace those components as well which I couldn’t do with a jdm. I am not ruling out a stock swap but I happen to be out of work for the next couple of months while I go through chemo, so I have some time. I just want to get some feedback on the details that I’m least familiar with - which is why I’ve asked specific questions.

Put a 2.7 in it lot less headaches. 2.7 is a great engine not a lot of power but dependable it will outlast your frame.

Unless your far more lucky then those I know that went through Chemo that last thing your going to do is be working on a truck.

    I hope I am wrong .

I hope you strong in wiring the easy way would be find a Engine Harness and Auto ECM for a 2002 Tacoma 3.4 then match all the sensors to 2002 .

    best of luck

    1) It’s a donor truck not a donor engine. The harness and ecu are there.

    2) Don’t you worry about what I do during my treatment.

    3) Thank you for adding zero information to this thread, just like everyone else so far, except JasonLee.

    4) I have asked four questions. If anyone is interested in answering or offering something meaningful, please reply. Otherwise, scroll on.

I’m not trying to be an asshole, but seriously I’m just trying to get answers to the questions I asked.
