Give me the VIN and I'll get you the exact MSRP of this truck, not just a comp.

    lol this OP

I got my Baja around $25k for a 2014 DCSB with just over 60k miles.

Anyone who purchases this truck at this price is getting hustled.

So basically you would get an 18 year old truck with 167k miles for 80% of what it sold for brand new. I try to take any emotion out of the equation when making a large financial decision. But hey if money is no concern and it checks all your boxes go for it.

4 years ago I paid 9k for a 2002 2.7L 5sp extended cab in good condition with 155k miles. As others have said the market is in a weird place right now and I could see someone paying 18k for that truck (not suggesting that you should)

You can easily find a cheaper truck.. but is that your goal?!

But good luck finding a black double cab LIMITED 4x4 that is cleaner with less miles for less if this is your dream truck!! Forget miles, its all about shiny original paint, straight body panels, nice interior bits, and lack of rust, and some good history on these older rigs that add value on top of the sought after models and options like you are looking at here.

The Limited seats do make the truck roughly twice as enjoyable as the standard seats and it would be shameful for you to let these rare gems get away from you! I went from bench to bucket to Sport seats which are in the Limited package or SRunner ONLY and easily the best upgrade I added to the truck due to the added comfort. (And hard to come by used in any condition.)
    20200926_172642.jpg

Stock vs Sport on the faithful day I made the switch.. would not go back to driving a first gen without these.

I certainly would not sell my first gen for what it cost new, not even double. Dealers know what they got too when they see clean first gens judging by price tags, but haggle IF you can. Also maybe wait and watch if it doesnt sell the price will likely drop, when it does that may be a sign they are willing to negotiate.

Or offer them $16,500 cash today based on market and see what they say!

Maybe I should drive my truck out to California, sell it and fly back home, buy another 1st gen here, and pocket the extra money in the bank.
On another note,I've never understood the constant bashing of auto transmissions here on TW. In general an atuo transmission will out tow a manual. Now there will be situations were the manual would be more "convenient", but from my personal experience over the years, I'll stick with the automatic transmission. I can't remember the exact terminology, but something changed in the manuals years ago, maybe the hydraulic clutch plate, ya'll help me out. But they were never as strong after this change. Yes I learned to drive a 3 on the tree, and most of my vehicles have been manual, but since I injured my back, it's just easier on my body, without having to manipulate a clutch.

When a dealer says not taking offers, but you walk in with $15,000 cash, most likely they will be taking offers, all of a sudden.

I wouldn’t say “let’s talk about the price” walk in and say “I have $15,000 in cash for that Tacoma” and there’s a good chance you’ll walk out with it

If not at least then you know they really aren’t taking offers

I would love to see the expression on OP's friends and family's face when he says he paid 22k for this truck. This is like buying all your stocks right before the market crashes and then selling at the bottom to avoid further loss.

To almost everyone else, this is an OLD truck man. Its not going to appreciate with 167k miles. Maybe if it had 67k miles sure. I loaned my 2000 to a friend yesterday help him move, asked him how it drove since he put about 70 miles on it, his response was "it drives like a 20 year old truck"

This is an old truck that has entire websites full of passionate truck people that love these things, and dream, and talk about them all day long! They are not for everyone by any means, but those that love them know there is nothing like these trucks that you can buy for almost decades now after they stopped making these.

The older they get, the more in demand the nice ones that are fully loaded become. I have been offered over double what I paid for mine in less than a year of owning it, and turned them down without thinking twice. Personally I wouldnt take $22 for my 2wd 5 lug reg cab.. go ahead and try waving more cash at me any other folks lurking online creating accounts just to make more offers on my truck!

This truck is not priced for the masses that want an "old truck".. this is priced for the first gen Tacoma connoisseur that knows there is nothing quite like these trucks and there never will be again, and they certainly know this one is indeed a rare black shiny Limited diamond among these sought after old trucks! The dealer knows this exact build is a dream truck for many and wants to wait for the person that truly can appreciate and love this truck for what it is (and make as much profit as possible).

If you keep this truck for years and years and get a ton of use and fun out of it and keep it close to its current condition I wouldnt really see that as "losing" even if you cant sell it for what you paid for it. Many folks go buy a new truck and then watch the value plummet as soon as they drive it off the lot without thinking twice. Old trucks that folks love become classics and appreciate after time conversely.. look at any older Toyotas 4x4's too see how their values rise over time to give you an idea of where this may land in a decade or so. Then check their kbb and you will see kbb is merely a guide that doesnt apply well to in demand older vehicles at all. First gen Tacoma's sell in hours to days around here when they are even semi clean well over kbb.

Price tags are one thing.. It's all about knowing what makes you happy and spending your dollars accordingly in my mind. Sometimes getting cheap is the most expensive route if you are not happy then need to go buy another truck! I have felt this many times.. Yet I dont recall too many times regretting my decision while staring at my dream machine in the garage. Keep in mind many of us on here go and spend thousands more on these old trucks without worrying about impacting its cost to value, again its more about what makes us happy most of the time.

"What is important to you?" may be the best way to answer this question... for yourself, and us all. Thank you all for indulging me in my notions of Tacoma first gen vintage gold and their true value.

    No low-ballers please

In 2012, I purchased a 2004, Tacoma, Double Cab, 4x4 , TRD Radiant Red.....with 33,000 miles for $18,500......had signs of offroad and general truck use, not perfect...way above good though....about $5k worth of sound system and other aftermarket goodies.

In 2003, truck sold brand new for $28,000 before license and tax. Dealers sticker price

I believe I paid a premium in 2012, but knew that if I didn’t pull the trigger, I may have missed a great truck......I plan on keeping this truck for the rest of my life.......I’ve got a few miles on me, but, I know my daughter will cherish this truck after I am gone......Toyota owner since 1972.

The miles are high....concerning.....agree with others.....compare Blue Book and insurance numbers.

Gotta’ be comfortable in your decision.

I wonder what these trucks will sell for when they become eligible for Classic Car Status. I watched a Mecum's auto auction when a 1983 Toyota SR5 4X4 pickup hammered for $55,000. I couldn't believe it. Now don't get me wrong this truck was pristine by all accounts and very low milage with a complete restoration. So who know where the market for these trucks will wind up.

    It's a secret
If that truck came with a hidden compartment stashed with 2 - 3 kilos of pure white pixiedust, then yes it's a good deal.

If you [OP] want to be generous and spread positivity to the cosmos which may help with your own good-karma tally, yes it's a good deal.

I mean I love my first gen as much as anyone here but end of the day you're paying $22K for a 20 year old truck. They've got a cult following yes but not like old muscle cars or actual collectors cars....

Speaking of which, I'm pretty sure for $22K you could find a decent chevelle or something that'll actually hold some value.
