OK I have a 2016 Tacoma Sport. I have the 7 Year bumper to bumper warranty. The clutch in the AC Unit begins to howl August 10th. I head for my dealer, the 1st Toyota Dealership in Canada. Two trips to the service department are necessary for them to recognize the grinding sound coming from under the hood is the AC clutch. I am told the AC unit is the same one Toyota installed in their Gen 2 trucks and the unot has a reputation for failing. Terrific! Problem is under warranty fix it. Four months later the dealer is still waiting for parts from Toyota Canada!

Now I get hold of the owner =, he tells me he will take it up with Tpypota Canada and he thought it would help if I phoned them as well. Fair enough call will go out tomorrow. What tisks me off is a) the local service department has not kept me informed and apparently have done nothing more than order the parts b) Toyota apparently knew of the issues from the Gen2 edition and went ahead an installed the same unit in their Gen3 trucks. As I write this I suspect it is not the same unit but yield to the local service gurus.

I intend to document here how all this plays out and when the truck gets the repairs completed.

How common is this issue with the Gen 3 trucks? Have any of you experienced the same issues with delays in parts for the AC unit?

Rant over, love the truck, like it better if I had AC ,

What part of Canada you in that needs AC right now :)

But really I have had a issue with my AC due to corrosion on the ground wire. But thats it. Took a few days to get parts and that was in the summer.

It’s a common issue on a lot of newer Japanese cars. The AC clutch in my mothers accord failed at 25k miles.

Think driving down the street with a howling noise coming out of the truck that would wake the dead. It is something more than annoying. It has been raining up here for two months. Snow maybe by Christmas.

Hooper89 the truck was designed in the US and made in El Paso, Texas. Not much to do with Japan unfortunately. I own an Avalon made in St. Louis, MO which has been outstanding. The AC Unit aside the Tacoma has been free of defects and has been a great truck.

Parts are overseas sourced. Its just something I have noticed with all of my Hondas and Toyotas.

It's not going to help your Tacoma A/C woes, but we don't have a Toyota vehicle production plant here,,, probably Georgetown Kentucky? We do have a Bodine plant that makes cast aluminum parts though.
