Grind Calipers or wheels?

OK.. so long story short I bought new wheels because my new tires were rubbing my LR UCAs and now Im rubbing the caliper (btw 4wheelparts said they would fit fine.. never listening to them again lol). I ground down the inside of one wheel and put my spare 32" to get it home but now I need to get them to clear all the way. The one I ground down i took down probably about 1/8in and it still is rubbing, but only slightly. I'd like some opinions on whether to grind down the wheels more or try to take a little off the caliper. Also does anyone know if taking a little off the wheels is going to cause me any problems? I can't do spacers because I'm running 35s and spacers are only rated to 33s.. Oh and i did see this old thread but I wanted to get some other opinions... Click

The wheels I got are steel pro comp 17x8 with 4.25" BS and 0 offset (sorry for the crappy cell pics)

Honestly, I would sell the wheels and get some soft 8 type wheels (d windows rub, soft 8 style dont).

 

Wait, so you now have 17s and they rub on the calipers with 4.25 backspacing. Somethings not right

 

I think it has to do with the offset but that's just a guess.. 4wheelparts said it wouldn't matter but I'm guessing a negative offset would have fixed this..

 

even a wheel with the same specs? with 0 offset?

 

Would there be any problem with grinding the wheels? I have to try to this in the morning so i can actually drive! thanks!

 

never grind steel wheels, they are MUCH more thinner than alloys....DO NOT grind steel wheels... and I would NEVER recommend grinding calipers...buy wheel spacers

 

send em back. you may have to eat the 1 ya filed down... 1/8". just how thick is that steel anyway? holy broken wheel batman!

The main problem is there's a lip around the inside of the D window that's pretty thick.. the part where I ground it down didn't even get close to the outside surface. I guess I'll call 4wheelparts in the morning and see what they'll do..

 

I would do spacers but spacers can only be use on wheels up to 33" and I've got 35's... Guess ill call 4wheelparts in the morning

 

What are you doing with the FJ wheels?

 

ok, i get it. unfortunately that lip is critical structure and gives the wheel rigidity. yer still hosed pal. got yer fj wheels and tires, right? time to put em back on. good luck with yer call.

 

selling them... they're painted matte black... I sandblasted them before painting them..

Y I liked em better too .. especilly after all the work i put into them! sadly with the new tires they rubbed on the UCAs.. i went with the steel wheels because they were the cheapest and I didn't foresee the problem with the fj wheels when I went the 35's

 

am I wrong about the wheel spacers? I don't remember where I read it but I thought I heard that spacers were only for tires up to 33s? if not I can run the fj wheels with some spacers...

 

just keep tellin yerself, "bigger is better!" i have half a mind to make ya write it on the chalkboard till yer fingers bleed and ya give up on the idea. ill be in town at krismiss to take those fj's off yer hands for all the friendly advice ive provided. you can keep the mondo tires
